Hacker Leaks GTA VI Videos; Open to Negotiate a Deal w/ Rockstar Games

Although Grand Theft Auto 6 is at least two years from launch, the game is expected to be even bigger than its predecessor GTA V, which raked in over $6 billion in revenue sales.

Rockstar Games faced a massive leak, and almost 90 Grand Theft Auto 6 videos were uploaded on a number of social media platforms, including YouTube.

The user @teapotuberhacker released about 3GB worth of early gameplay footage. After this breach, Rockstar Games is worried whether other important data such as the source code for GTA V and VI, game assets, and testing builds are also at risk.

The hacker “Tea Pot” claimed to have the source code for the games mentioned above, but only the code for GTA 6 was confirmed to be in his possession. He wanted to negotiate a deal with Rockstar regarding its sale. This fiasco led to a scam of $100,000 taking place, where the hacker’s name was used.

Twitter user @videotech_ shared a transaction receipt of $100,556.81 to an unknown wallet. Tea Pot confirmed later that they did not make this sale.

The hacker received 3000+ telegram messages and emails from YouTube informing that the video clips had been taken down.

The videos confirmed a lot of rumors which had surfaced over the years. The game is set in Miami, much like the 2002 title Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The protagonists are named Jason and Lucia.

One of the videos showed Lucia trying to rob a restaurant, after which a police chase ensued. Another video featured Jason trying to take part in a drive-by shooting.

Rockstar Games and its primary investor company, Take-Two Interactive, have taken down the leaked videos and are working on stopping their circulation. A leak as such could potentially kill off one of the most epic franchises in the video game industry.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development.
