Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Kill or Spare Cynon? A Love Betrayed Guide

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a story-driven game that allows players to make choices and decide how the story will pan out. Some of these choices seriously affect the storyline and the game finale, while others don’t influence it at all and are mere illusion of choices.

The quest “A Love Betrayed” in Glowecestrescire poses such a choice to the players whether they should kill or spare Cynon, who has been exposed as a traitor in the previous quest “The Stolen King.”

Both the choices of killing or sparing Cynon have no severe consequence on the overall storyline of AC Valhalla or the Glowecestrescire Arc. Even if the players choose to spare Cynon, he will later be burned alive inside the wicker man.

The quest “A Love Betrayed” begins immediately after the quest “The Stolen King” with the objective to confront Cynon.

Locating Cynon in the Longhouse

Players have to travel to the city of Glowecestre in the southern part of the Glowecestrescire.

Once there, head to the longhouse in the city center to find that Cynon is not present there, but the people nearby may know his whereabouts.

The objective will change to “talk to Brigid.” Brigid is standing at the southern end of the longhouse. You can choose any dialogue while talking to her. A cutscene will begin here, and after it ends, the objective will now change to “Find Cynon” / “Talk to the party organizers.”

Talking to the Party Organizers

The party organizers are wearing animal masks and can be located by using Odin’s sight near the longhouse. Talk to them, and you will find out that Cynon is in the church and some organizer named Geva has a key to the locked church.

At this point, you can either choose to look for Geva or sneak your way around the northern side of the church, climb to its roof and break the glass window to get inside. You can also get into the church in this way without talking to the organizers.

If you choose to find Geva, then talk to the organizer, west of the bonfire. Locate them through Odin’s sight, and they will tell you that Geva is expecting some crates to be delivered to the churchyard.

Now, you have to make a choice. You will be given several chances to rethink your decision through the initial dialogues, so you can choose any dialogues initially till you reach the screen with the dialogues, “Prepare to Die” and “You’ll die in the wicker man.”

I. Choosing “Prepare to Die”

If you choose the “Prepare to Die” dialogue, Eivor will immediately proceed to slit Cynon’s throat with an axe, and the quest will be completed rewarding you 3,400 XP. This decision will have no major effect on the storyline, The festival will still continue, and the wicker man will be burned without Cynon in it.

II. Choosing “You’ll die in the wicker man” / Sparing Cynon

If you choose to spare Cynon, he will thank you for your mercy. The quest will be completed rewarding you 3,400 XP. Later, Cynon will be burned alive inside of the wicker man prepared for the festival, and he will burn while screaming and offering an uncomfortable prayer to the gods.
