Next Assassin’s Creed Game Could Take Place in a Fan-Desired Setting

Celebrating Assassin’s Creed’s fifteenth anniversary this year, it looks like Ubisoft has its eye on the future. The company has already announced its decision to shut down the online services for older AC games, and now, it looks all set to bring the future of the much-beloved franchise to light.

We have already heard of AC Infinity, a confirmed live-service title that’s in development. But beyond it, the other titles that Ubisoft is reportedly working on are: Assassin’s Creed Nexus, a VR game; AC Rift, a smaller game with Basim as protagonist; and lastly, there is tittle-tattle about an AC1 Remake.

Now, the latest rumor about the franchise will shed light on where Ubisoft plans on taking enthusiasts in the future by revealing the setting of the following AC game.

As per Jeremy Penter, aka ACG, the next Assassin’s Creed game will go back in time and take players to Aztecs. Unfortunately, Penter did not reveal anything else besides the title’s location. As a result, we don’t have any information on the game’s setting or its release window.

For the unaware, the Aztecs were a Mesoamerican culture that prospered in central Mexico from 1300 to 1521. However, with the arrival of Spanish conquistadors, the Aztecs saw their empire fall to pieces. In pop culture, the Aztecs are known for their marvelous architecture and rich tradition.

Given that most of the main entries in the AC franchise have been set in Europe and the Middle East, it’d be a big move by the company to now jump into a popular Central American culture if the rumors are true.

Jeremy Penter has been spot-on about several Ubisoft projects in the past, like Far Cry Primal, but then again, rumors and leaks should always be taken with a pinch of salt.

The best thing for fans to do right now is to wait for Ubisoft reveals for the Assassin’s Creed franchise in September. As currently, it is wearisome to investigate which upcoming title is likely to house the Aztec setting.
