Apart from the stunning graphics and engaging gameplay, one of the unique selling points of the Assassin’s Creed series is the vast open world and tons of cool stuff to explore besides the main storyline. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has now taken the vast exploration and side quests to the next level.
Many of it’s exciting quests deal with finding clues, investigating potential enemies, and executing them, which adds a new layer of thrill to the old style of RPG gaming. Even the significant quests of more recent DLCs are full of such gameplay mechanics and events.
Generally, the major Assassin’s Creed quests follow the familiar mechanics of seeking someone out, following them stealthily, and executing them. These investigating quests are just an evolved version of the same.
One such quest in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is “Closing the Vault,” which requires the player to investigate and figure out who is ‘The Vault’ of Order of the Ancients. To successfully complete this quest, you need to wander in the Jorvik city, investigating the possible suspects who may or may now be the Vault and assassinate the person once its identity is revealed.
Accusing and Revealing the Vault
There are four prime suspects at the Yuletide festival in Jorvik:
You need to talk to all of them and figure out which one of them is the Vault based on the conversations. Unfortunately, you might find everyone to be a possible traitor even after all the investigation. If you are unable to find a valid reason to accuse someone, stress not, we are here to help you out.
The real identity of ‘The Vault’ in the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is Audun, who is a senior member of the Order of the Ancients and the founding member of the Red Hand. Accusing and assassinating Audun will lead to the successful conclusion of the quest.
Audun’s knowledge about the poisoned wine and his reluctance to drink it forms a strong enough ground to accuse him.
To end the quest, you need to go to Ljufvina and accuse Audun of being the Vault; this will initiate a cutscene, after which you can assassinate Audun, which will mark the completion of the quest.
What if You Accuse the Wrong Person?
Luckily, your wrong choice in this quest will not haunt you in the future or affect the outcome of your gameplay in any profound way.
No matter who you accuse of being the traitor, the triggered cutscene at the end will be the same, leading Audun to expose himself of being the Vault and allowing you to assassinate him. Unfortunately, you cannot save the people of Jorvik from consuming the poisoned wine under any circumstance.
The reactions of the wrongly accused person may differ at the end of the quest as they act a little disappointed in Eivor for accusing them. Still, it will not have any significant impact on the overall storyline and the following quests.
How to Get the “Closing the Vault” Quest?
After starting the Jorvik story arc and completing both ‘Burning the Firebrand’ and ‘Pricking the Needle’ quests, you can trigger the ‘Closing the Vault’ quest at the Royal Hall of Jorvik when you speak to Ljufvina there.
Before uncovering the identity of the Vault, you need to explore the back of the Archives room for a note on the table, which will act as a clue to Vault’s identity.
After finding a hidden room inside of the Archives, you will find out the poisoned wine which will be served at the Yuletide Feast.
After this, you need to head to the Amphitheatre, where Ljufvina will tell you that the Vault is one of the council members at the festival and ask you to investigate each one of them.
To investigate, simply use your Odin sight to find out the people with the text box over their heads and talk to them.
Bugs and Glitches in ‘Closing the Vault’ Quest
At this point, it is next to impossible for Assassin’s Creed to not have any glitches or bugs in every other quest. Closing the Vault has a very annoying bug where at a point, you might not be able to interact with Ljufvina, which is extremely necessary to progress with the mission and the entire game. Tons of players have been frustrated by the same issue, and some have even given up on the entire game.
A Redditor, u/aidanleehren, has raised concerns about a similar bug on the r/ACValhalla subreddit. He mentioned that Ljufvina gets stuck in different scenarios, making it impossible for the players to interact with her. The good news is that Ubisoft has noted the bug and has fixed it in a new patch. On the other hand, the bad news is that some players are still facing the same issues for which the Ubisoft support staff cannot seem to suggest any fix.
The user, Daghering, mentioned the same glitch on the Ubisoft player support forum to which the support staff replied with a very unpromising “I’ve updated the development team to let them know that you’re still unable to interact with Ljufvina. In the meantime, please keep an eye out within the News & Announcements, for any future updates.”
