Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Dead Space Remake Have Something in Common

We got our first look at the Dead Space Remake being developed by EA Motive just a little while back. Some rumors had been floating around on who would be leading the project, and we finally have confirmation.

True to the rumor, Eric Baptizat – Game Director of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – will be the game director on the Dead Space remake as well.

This information comes from Eric’s LinkedIn page, which clearly states “game director on Dead Space.” Baptizat was with Ubisoft for 16 years before he made a move to EA Motive.

While at Ubisoft, he was the game director on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and a lead game designer on Black Flag, Unity, and Origins. Aside from the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Baptizat also has lead designer credits on Shaun White Skateboarding and Surf’s Up.

The team at EA Motive also includes some other former Ubisoft staff, including creative director Roman Campos-Oriola (For Honor) and senior producer Phillipe Ducharme (Watch Dogs Legion). A returning member of the Dead Space 2 team is Michael Yazijian, art director, and Dino Ignacio, who was a UI designer on all three games, is acting as a consultant.

Several ex-Bioware staff is also confirmed to be working on the Dead Space Remake project.

The Dead Space Remake is more than just a remaster of the original game. The Remake has been built from the ground up, using EA’s new Frostbite engine. The game will also be including some of the unused level designs created during the original game’s development.

The idea is to provide the same narrative with a fresh gameplay experience. Given that it’s a horror game, it makes sense to change a few things here and there to keep the horror element alive.

Very little is known about the Dead Space Remake, as EA has revealed nothing beyond the initial trailer. We’ll have to wait a while before this game is ready to play, but for many fans of the original, it may well be worth the wait.

About Dead Space Remake

Dead Space Remake is the next-gen Remake of the 2008 sci-fi action horror franchise developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. The Remake is being handled by EA Motive and is set to feature various upgrades to the visuals, sound, and gameplay.

Dead Space follows the story of Isaac Clarke, an engineer on board an intergalactic mining ship called the USSG Ishimura. On discovering an ancient artifact known as The Marker, the ship is overrun by a species of aliens called Necromorphs. With the aliens turning the crew into one of their own, Isaac must fight through the hordes as he tries to find a way to get back to Earth.

The gameplay is reminiscent of the Resident Evil franchise, with inventory management being a key component. Players have access to various mining tools that act as weapons and must navigate the claustrophobic corridors of the Ishimura while fighting off the Necromorphs.
