Goodwin in AC Valhalla is a friend turned traitor. He fights using a sword and a heavy shield so inflicting damage on him isn’t easy. After fighting him in a battle, players can either kill him or let him live.

1. Killing or Sparing Goodwin in AC Valhalla

Killing or sparing Goodwin

After players have injured Goodwin in a boss fight, they will have the following dialogue options to choose from:

i. I will kill you.

The message is clear as a crystal that if you choose this option. Eivor will end up stabbing Goodwin to death with a dagger.

ii. I can still use you yet.

If you choose this dialogue, Eivor will say, “I will use you, as you used me. You will lead us to your sparrow-king.” Eivor would want to extract information from Goodwin.

However, instead of accepting Eivor’s mercy, Goodwin slits his throat as he feels that death is better than revealing crucial intelligence.

2. Consequence of both the dialogues

The outcome of defeating Goodwin in a fight is his death. Even if you try to spare his life, he will commit suicide. You cannot stop him from dying.

Your choice will have no impact on the game’s story.

If I were in your shoes, I’d kill Goodwin. Once upon a time, he was a good friend of yours, and the way he had no scruples about betraying you deserves death.

Now given that your encounter with Goodwin is a part of the Holy Day quest, here is how you can start it.

After players are done with the Kingdom’s End quest, the quest will take place outside Hamtun Blockade in western Hamtunscire.

When you arrive at the Forward Camp, you will see Guthrum and your allies. Interacting with Guthrum will start the attack on Chepeham.

4. Finding Chepeham’s Church

Alongside his allies, Eivor will now be heading out to find Chepeham’s church, where Aelfred is likely to be. It is the tallest building in the town so you should have no trouble spotting the church. After you open the front gate, a cutscene will commence.

5. Fighting Goodwin in AC Valhalla’s Holy Day

Unfortunately, by going to Chepeham, Eivor and the group fall right into the trap. Now Eivor will have to face his friend-turned-enemy, Goodwin.

Goodwin is a formidable enemy to fight against. He uses a heavy shield and sword, giving him both offensive and defensive capabilities.

To emerge victorious against Goodwin, players will have to hit his weak points i.e., his right knee and back’s left side. Dodge his attacks while moving to the right and then hit him on his back or knee.

Goodwin does not have a lot of moves. However, even a single hit by him can inflict a lot of damage. Dodging is the perfect way to beat Goodwin.

6. Helping Your Allies: Ljufvina, Guthrum, and Broder

Helping your allies
  1. Ljufvina: Ljufvina will be surrounded by enemies near Chepeham’s church, thus requiring your help. Assist her in the killing of foes, and after that, carry an injured Hunwald to the house nearby.
  2. Guthrum: Guthrum will also require your assistance, and you can find him at a building beside Chepeham’s church. Use your parkour to get to the other side of the barred door and kill the guards. After this, you can tie the noble up.
  3. Broder: Broder can be found at the Garrison. You can enter the Garrison by using the tree’s branch. Now that you are inside, eliminate the guards and secure the place.

When you are done saving your allies, you can annihilate anyone who opposes you in this town.

After regrouping, you will have the choice of having a funeral for all those allies who die in the battle or talking to survivors first. To start the funeral, interact with Guthrum.
