Eivor’s journey to Ireland takes a turn when cousin Barid asks for help capturing a certain fugitive named Thorstein. The man in question is supposedly the son of the previous King of Dublin, and planning to conspire against cousin Barid. Location and capturing Thorstein is mostly what the “Snaring Thorstein” mission comprises of, before you can even get to the final decision and decide the captured man’s fate.
This manhunt mission will trigger immediately after the “Blood Bond” quest included in AC Valhalla’s new Wrath of the Druids DLC. But, before you can decide Thorstein’s fate in Barid’s court, it’s time to capture the man.
1. Snaring Thorstein Mission in AC Valhalla
The Snaring Thorstein mission starts with Eivor’s arrival at Dublin. Players first need to talk to Sichfrith who informs that Ama might know of Thorstein’s whereabouts. Then after defeating Ama in a drinking game and stealing her key, players can head on over to Thorstein’s hiding place and capture him after fighting.
i. How to Capture Thorstein?
To successfully capture Thorstein for questioning, players need to challenge him to a fight and win. Then only they can bind him and take him to Barid’s court for interrogation regarding his alleged conspiracy.
2. All Thorstein Choices with Consequences
After capturing Thorstein and taking him to court, Eivor is left with three choices regarding his fate:
i. A Dignified Death
Choosing a dignified death, Eivor will suggest that Barid execute him in the most dignified way possible, showing the people that he is a lawful King.
Consequences: Although Eivor suggests execution, Barid will show mercy by banishing Thorstein and capturing his land and money. Barid will explain that as a true Christian King, he should show mercy for the sake of Christianity.
ii. A Cruel Death
Choosing a cruel death, Eivor will suggest that they kill Thorstein in the cruelest way possible so that it can inflict fear in the people’s mind to not disobey their King and commit such treachery.
Consequences: Although Eivor suggests this option, Barid will yet again make the final decision and banish Thorstein in the same way as the previous choice.
iii. A Display of Cruelty
Choosing a display of cruelty, Eivor will suggest that they make a debacle out of Thorstein’s capture and let the public torture him however they please.
Consequences: Ultimately, this option too will be disregarded and Thorstein will be banished for the sake of Barid’s Christian beliefs.
If you’re still indecisive about which option to choose, let me make it easier and suggest you the best one.
3. What Should You Choose in the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Thorstein Quest?
The best option to choose for the Thorstein choice is the “A Dignified Death” dialogue option. Although, all the options ultimately end up with Barid banishing Thorstein, it is still better for Eivor to choose a dignified death and be less cruel towards Thorstein.
If you ask me, I would definitely suggest that you go for “a dignified death” option and show a bit of humane character for Eivor. We know Thorstein is a traitor and had conspired against cousin Barid, but he is also the son of the previous King of Dublin and carries royal blood. It would be a shame to see a royal prince tortured to his gruesome death.
But if you still want to show the sheer ruggedness and brutality of the Vikings, you can always exploit the save button and go for the other options as well.
