It’s certainly surprising to see Assassin’s Creed Valhalla announcing its Expansion Packs before release, but I wouldn’t dare say that what’s coming isn’t welcome at all!

After all, it seems that these DLC will be recreating some of the most incredible adventures of Vikings in the game, telling the tales of the Druids and the siege on Francia!

The first expansion, titled Wrath of the Druids, will see the protagonist making his way to Ireland to find hints and clues about an ancient Druidic cult.

This, in all probability, means that we’ll be fighting our way through creepy forests and are in for some trippy sequences. Will it be on the level of Far Cry? I don’t think so, but we’ll just have to wait and see what it has in store for us.

Anyhow, the expansion will undoubtedly be filled with tons of lore and tales to explore when it drops in Spring 2021.

Coming to the second expansion, The Siege of Paris, which will drop in summer, we’ll have to rewind time, Prince of Persia style, and take a look at the real-life history of what went down.

Now, I know, I know. Not many are appreciative of history, and frankly speaking, I’m one of those guys. But since it’s Assassin’s Creed and Viking history, let’s make an exception this one time, shall we?

So, The Siege of Paris was a real event that took place in the year 845 when the Vikings decided to invade West Francia. It was led by a legendary Viking by the name of Ragnar Lodbrok with around 120 Viking Ships.

What happened was that the first time, the Vikings faced a pretty bad defeat at the hands of Charles the Bald and his army.

But on their second attempt, they pretty much destroyed half of the Frenchmen, forcing them to retreat. Not to mention, they plundered the city and refused to leave the land until Charles the Bald offered them around 4000 pounds of gold and silver.

Sounds pretty brutal, and Ubisoft also seems to agree, as they describe it as “the most ambitious battle in Viking history.”

These expansions will be available as part of the season pass, including a quest about Beowulf’s Legend. Also, the Discovery Tour will be added to the game, letting players explore the world without the worry of facing any enemies.

Here’s all the stuff that will be available in the first season of the game, as described by Ubisoft:

  • A new settlement area, allowing players to continue to grow and evolve their settlement.
  • A traditional Viking Festival: the Yule Festival, for players to experience in their settlement.
  • A new game mode: the River Raids. Building on Valhalla’s core raiding mechanic, the mode will deliver a dynamic, challenging and highly replayable raid experience.
  • The addition of the Ranks for Jomsviking: in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players can not only create their lieutenant to be part of their raiding crew, but also recruit some from their friends and the community. In Season 1, players will see an update to the Jomsviking feature which will allow their Jomsviking to earn XP and rank up—the higher the rank of the lieutenant, the more silver players will earn when recruited by other players.
  • Finally, as for each season, Season 1 will also come with new player skills and abilities, weapons and gear, and cosmetic items for the settlement, longship, horse and raven.

Ubisoft also revealed details about the second season, saying that it will “follow on March 2021, and will also include free content including a new combat-oriented game mode, a Jomsviking update, and Settlement festivals, along with new gear and cosmetic items. Details on Season 3 will be revealed at a later date, but Season 2 isn’t the only content coming in 2021.”

In all, things are looking pretty great for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so make sure to experience the game when it finally drops on November 10.
