Valheim is Steam’s new favorite game at the moment and seems like every gamer wants to try it out. This survival co-op crafting game is perfect for you if you’re into those genre of games. Like every other survival crafting game, this too requires you to build your own farm and farm some food.
When I tried out Valheim, initially I was running around like a headless chicken before finally realizing that I needed to grow some crops to make food before I die of hunger. That’s when my quest to build my own farm began.
Don’t worry though; you don’t have to suffer like me. I’ll tell you exactly what to do to get your farm up and running.
1. How to Farm in Valheim?
In order to farm in Valheim, players have to first make a Smelter, then a Forge, and eventually a Cultivator. The players also need to gather some seeds to sow in the farmlands. Then the players can simply select the Cultivator and add some seeds to sow in the tilled areas.
You can plant any kind of seeds, saplings, shrubs or other root vegetables in this Viking-inspired game.
i. How to Plant Seeds?
Equipping the Cultivator and clicking the Cultivate button will turn land into arable land. Then one can simply plant any kind of seeds to cultivate and farm in Valheim.
Keep in mind not to plant seeds right next to each other and keep a bit of distance between them otherwise they might not grow properly. Also, you don’t have to worry about finding seeds as a bit of foraging will give you enough seeds to plant.
Yeah I know it’s a long process but you have to work for the food man! Now, before you get into building and gathering, let me tell you how to easily get the smelter.
2. How to Make the Smelter in Valheim?
Crafting a Smelter needs 20 Stones and 5 Surtling Cores. The Surtling Cores are available after defeating the first boss Eikthyr, deep in the black forest region of the map.
Just a reminder, the black forest is filled with many enemies so be prepared to engage in some brutal fights. After you finish making the Smelter, you now need the Forge to proceed forward.
3. How to Make the Forge in Valheim?
Forge is rather an easy crafting item to make in Valheim. Players only need 4 stones, 4 coals, 10 wood, and 6 copper to make it.
Once you have finished crafting the forge, simply place it near your workbench and select the Hammer to use it.
With the Forge now completed, we come to the final and most important item needed to start your farm: The Cultivator.
4. How to Make the Cultivator in Valheim?
In order to make the Cultivator, players need to use the Smelter and make bronze bars out of tin and copper. Then the bronze bars and a couple of Core Wood logs can be used to make the Cultivator.
Now you can use the Cultivator to plant seeds and farm a nice vegetable garden for your base. You will be able to gather various seeds and saplings throughout the game to farm to your heart’s content.
