AMD claims to topple i9-13900K with Ryzen 7 7800X3D in 1080p gaming

AMD’s top-of-the-line Ryzen 7 7800X3D’s benchmark have been officially released and analyzed. This sees the much-anticipated CPU lock horns with the flagship Core i9-13900K CPU.

AMD’s recently let the anticipation build up with scarce information on the Ryzen 9 7900X3D without sampling press followed with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D being compared only to the previous generation Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

For the testing, the 7800X3D and the 13900K systems were equipped with a DDR5-6000 memory kit.

Ryzen has recently revealed benchmarks for it’s much anticipated $449 7900X3D on various titles such as Rainbow Six Siege, Total War: Three Kingdoms, RDR2, and Horizon Zero Dawn. The 7900X3D would be 13% to 24% faster than the Core i9-13900K and have a 19.5% better performance on average.

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is $150 cheaper at $449 compared to the Core i9’s $589. Equipped with eight cores and a mammoth L3 cache of 96 MB, it has a TDP rated at 120W (despite consuming much less in practice) and a boosts clock frequency of 5.0GHz.

While it comes in at a 400MHz lower boost clock compared to the non-X3D SKU, the huge L3 cache has an added benefit in performance. This is part of why drawing a comparison between the 24-core second-best Raptor Lake CPU, Core i9-13900K, was fair.

Per the benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is 24% stronger in Horizon Zero Dawn, 23% in Red Dead Redemption 2, 18% in Total War: Three Kingdoms, and 13% in Rainbow Six Siege.

The selected set of games doesn’t give the whole picture, as some games benefit from the 3D V-Cache, whereas some don’t benefit as much. There’s also an average improvement of 24% from the previous Zen 4 architecture.

The only place the Ryzen 7 7800X3D loses out is in the Horizon Zero Dawn by the Ryzen 9 7950X3D by a mere 3%. The benchmarks also proved that the 7800X3D would be within 5% variance from the performance of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D despite coming in $250 cheaper.

While it’s vendor-provided, so they can’t be entirely trustworthy, it must be somewhere around close. It should also be remembered that the benchmarks were for a few chosen titles; thus, it is too early to conclude.

With the CPU set for an April 6th launch, less than a month away, we don’t have to wait much to see how true the benchmarks were from AMD. This would be a serious offering at an excellent price point and tilt the scales in favor of team red.
