AMD’s Financial Analyst Day event provided an insight into the company’s growth opportunities and strategies.
The CPU roadmaps featured products scheduled for release by 2024 and a couple of previous ones. The upcoming models will be based on all-new redesigned technology, and even this slight glimpse was enough to excite us.
AMD’s new CPU lineup will consist of Zen4 and Zen 5-based models. It also introduced the Phoenix Point and Strix Point APU series.
The Zen 4 and Zen 5 architecture were the focal points of the presentation. It will feature three main variants–
i. Standard Zen 4/5
ii. Compute-focused Zen 4C/5C
Iii. V-Cache models: Zen4 V-Cache & Zen5 V-Cache
The Phoenix Point mobile APU will be based on Zen 4 architecture, featuring RDNA 3 graphics pipeline and AIE based on Xilinx IP. It is a part of the Ryzen 7000 ‘Raphael’ series and will be launched along with the Dragon Range APUs.
The Strix Point APU is supposedly AMD’s codename for its Ryzen 8000 APU series. This is also the first time the APU has made an appearance officially.
It will be developed using what AMD called an “advanced node,” the specifics yet unknown. The APU will be based on Zen 5 architecture and will feature RDNA3+ architecture and AIE.
The APU is rumored to be AMD’s first hybrid APU architecture, featuring both Zen4 and Zen5 cores.
The Ryzen 8000 series will be called the Granite Ridge series. AMD also confirmed that the desktop series is based on the rumored Zen 5 architecture. Although the process node to be used is still unknown, fans expect the TSMC N3 to be utilized.
It is also verified that the Threadripper 7000 HEDT Zen4 based-CPUs, featuring up to 96 cores, will be launched soon. There is no confirmation of desktop models being developed with the Zen5 with 3D V-Cache, but AMD did reveal that such architecture design exists.
AMD is expecting to launch these CPUs by 2024. We might get a better idea once they are past the initial phase.
