AMD Ryzen 7000 RDNA2 iGPU Overclocked w/ 42% Higher Performance

AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop series only has a small RDNA2 GPU component with 2 Compute Units. While this is not enough for ultimate gaming, users have tried achieving the best they could with the setup available.

Skatterbencher tested various overclocking strategies to maximize performance using AMD Precision Boost Overdrive and GFX Curve Optimizer. The configurations play around with different higher voltages for full potential.

With the stock iGPU configuration, you can achieve 2.2 GHz clock speed at 0.997 volts with Furmark. The CPU’s GPU and SOC consume around 38.5W. With manual overclocking, Skatterbench was able to overclock the iGPU to 2949 MHz at 1.2V. Meanwhile, the power consumption was increased to 63.5W and the memory clock was changed to 3.2 GHz.

If you adjust the GFX voltage or frequency curvature, the GPU clock can go up to 3.1 GHz at 1.395 volts. However, the device temperature also increased to 52.8°C from the safe 38.4°C, while SOC power was reported at 60.7W (slightly lower).

There was a 41.67% performance improvement when the Ryzen 7900 was tested in Tomb Raider at 1080p. However, it is still not playable. With the iGPU OC, Skatterbencher could run the ray-tracing benchmark which was earlier impossible with stock settings.

The conclusion derived is that the overclocking experience of integrated RDNA2 graphics is far better than discrete models. AMD Dragon Range mobile CPUs will also use a similar iGPU, but their overclocking will not be an easy task.
