Although Among Us launched way back in 2018, the simplistic online multiplayer shot to popularity in 2020 due to various reasons. Free availability on app stores, meager requirements on PC, and being stuck indoors due to a raging pandemic made the Mafia-inspired game a smash hit all over the planet.
Due to this spike in popularity, developer InnerSloth announced a port for PS4|5 in April and a port for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S at E3 2021. Now, it seems we have a potential release date for the game’s PlayStation versions.
According to PlayStation Game Size, an often-credible Twitter account with back-end access to the PS Store, Among Us will drop for PS4 and PS5 on August 31.
While this could very well be a placeholder date, this is the first time we have seen any information regarding a release date for Among Us on PlayStation. Previously, InnerSloth was committed to a release period of end-2021.
However, fans should probably not get too excited about this date. There have been many instances where leaked release dates have turned out to be false or, as mentioned earlier, just placeholders.
That being said, one fact adds to the validity of this date: August 31 is a Tuesday, and PlayStation has a history of dropping new titles on Tuesdays and Fridays. So, there is a sliver of possibility that the date could be accurate.
What’s more, this date could also apply to the Xbox port. Considering that the game was shown off at Xbox’s E3 showcase this year, it may arrive for Microsoft consoles sooner rather than later.
While this is entirely speculative, it will be fun to see players on Xbox and PlayStation play with and against each other using the game’s cross-play functionality.
At the moment, we would advise that you keep your eyes peeled for Among Us updates from official sources. Until InnerSloth confirms a release date, it would be unwise to get your hopes up for an August release.
Hopefully, the developers will make an info-heavy splash at PlayStation’s rumored State of Play event that might be held this month.
