Ubisoft unveiled a set of future projects for the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which will kickstart a new phase. Apart from confirming release dates for earlier announced games, several new titles were also announced at the Ubisoft Forward event.
Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Infinity and two new games under Project Infinity– Codename Hexe and Codename Red.
Assassin’s Creed Infinity will link future games together; you can think of it as a platform or launcher. However, the version Infinity, which will be launched soon, will not be the final one. We can expect more changes in the coming times.
The vice president executive producer of Assassin’s Creed, Marc-Alexis Côté, explained,
“Infinity is not a game, per-se. It’s going to be the single entry point for our fans into the Assassin’s Creed franchise into the future. Infinity is going to be a hub that will unite all our different experiences and our players together in meaningful ways.”
The Infinity Hub will start with Codename Red, which is a Shinobi-themed RPG set in feudal Japan. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec. While not much was revealed in the event, the game trailer showed a Shinobi jumping onto a pitched roof, drawing their hidden blade.
The second game, Codename Hexe, is in development at Ubisoft Montreal. The specific details are not public yet. However, since the game trailer focused on the Assassin’s triangular logo, made out of twigs and twine, hanging from a tree branch, similar to a witchcraft talisman, fans are guessing the game could be based around The Bamberg witch trials set in the 1600s.
Assassin’s Creed Infinity will also bring back multiplayer mode to the franchise.
We’re actually investigating how we will bring back standalone, multiplayer experiences into the Assassin’s Creed universe, all connected to the Infinity Hub.Marc-Alexis Côté
The term ‘standalone’ implies that the multiplayer game will not be related to the flagship games in Infinity.
Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available in 2023. The game will follow Basim’s journey through the lands of Baghdad. It will highlight some key aspects of Assassin’s Creed games, like stealth, parkour, and assassinations.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is currently available for pre-order.
