Assassin’s Creed Mirage Skipping Steam & Launching on Epic Games Store

Assassin’s Creed Mirage was one of the games whose gameplay was revealed at the PlayStation Showcase, which took place two days ago. In addition to that, an October release date for the game was also set, and details about the gameplay mechanics were revealed too. But if you’re a PC player, then you might be disappointed with this news.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will take the franchise back to its roots by focusing heavily on stealth and parkour elements. Set in ninth-century Baghdad, the game follows the transformation of a cunning young street thief, Basim Ibn Ishaq, into a Master Assassin.

PC players that use Steam will not be able to play Assassin’s Creed Mirage as the game is not launching on Steam; it’ll be launching only on the Epic Games Store and the official Ubisoft Store. It’s still unclear if it’ll ever come to Steam, as Ubisoft has yet to clarify that.

Ubisoft plans to bring Assassin’s Creed back to its roots with Assassin’s Creed Mirage after launching multiple RPG-focused titles in the franchise. 2022 was a pretty disappointing year for Ubisoft financially, as they reported an 18% drop in revenue when compared to 2021. So, the company is determined to bring it back up with the release of Mirage.

So far, everything that we’ve seen from the game looks fantastic, from the graphics to the mechanics, which are reminiscent of early Assassin’s Creed titles. But not launching it on Steam and making it exclusive to the Epic Games Store might affect sales, as Steam is the most popular platform on PC for purchasing and playing games.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage releases on October 12 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

About Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game is the thirteenth primary installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and the successor to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. While its historical timeframe precedes that of Valhalla, its modern-day framing story succeeds Valhalla’s own.

Set in 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age—in particular during the Anarchy at Samarra—the story follows Basim Ibn Ishaq (a character first introduced in Valhalla), a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones to fight for peace and liberty against the Order of the Ancients,[b] who desire peace through control. The main narrative focuses on Basim’s internal struggle between his duties as a Hidden One and his desire to uncover his mysterious past.
