Assassin’s Creed New Leak Suggests AC Red is in Development Among Multiple Projects

A new leak suggests that Ubisoft is currently working on multiple Assassin’s Creed projects. This isn’t necessarily something major, as anyone familiar with the franchise’s development cycle or Ubisoft’s large size knows that many games have been reported thus far.

However, the latest leaks suggest a new title codenamed Assassin’s Creed Red which will be part of the AC Infinity project, is in development. This could be the rumored Japan-set AC game that was supposed to be part of the AC Infinity setting.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity is a “hub” game with multiple settings, and it’s set to be the next mainline entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Details are scarce, but considering it’s a live-service title, it stands to reason Infinity will launch with a handful of settings and be expanded down the road.

It sounds like Assassin’s Creed Red is one of those titles and is reportedly set in Asia, possibly Japan specifically. Fans have been waiting for an Assassin’s Creed game in Feudal Japan since the franchise’s inception, and AC Red may finally deliver that experience as part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity.

Many fans believe that the rich historical setting would fit perfectly with the open-world franchise’s core pillars of stealth, freerunning traversal, and intense melee combat.

Japanese culture is one of the most sought-out cultures within gamers to play with, and the beautiful scenery and architecture of ancient Japan would surely bring in players.

There’s also the Assassin’s Creed Rift that is supposedly in development. AC Rift will be set in Baghdad, and players will get to experience the story of Basim from AC Valhalla.

Assassin’s Creed Rift

Assassin’s Creed Rift will be more like the original Creed games and will focus more on stealth mechanics rather than the RPG direction Ubisoft has recently followed with the last three titles. This would surely delight many original fans who were desperately waiting for the series to return to its roots.

Beyond even those, there are hints of an Assassin’s Creed VR project (codenamed Nexus), unless Ubisoft is pulling out of VR completely, and it’s just one of the other rumored titles. Then, some leaks also result in fans believing in an AC1 remake in the works.

Overall, there’s clearly a lot in the works, and we will have to wait until September, when Ubisoft will officially reveal more about the series.
