Everything to Know About Assassin’s Creed Red

Ubisoft has announced a plethora of new Assassin’s Creed games along with a Netflix adaptation in their Ubisoft Forward Showcase on the occasion of the franchise’s 15th Anniversary. But Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is something fans have been wanting for a long time.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, taking the franchise back to Feudal Japan. The game will let players live out a “very powerful shinobi fantasy” and is also described as the future of open-world RPG Assassin’s Creed games.

It will be the next major game in the series after 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so let’s dive into all the details about the game we know so far:

Setting of the game

Assassin’s Creed games have ventured into tons of locations but never Japan. But with Codename Red, Ubisoft is finally giving the fans what they want—an Assassin’s Creed game set in Feudal Japan. Players will be able to explore Feudal Japan and live out their shinobi fantasy.

Although it is not confirmed around which time period this game will take place in, it’s still very exciting to know that Ubisoft is finally entering new territories with the franchise, while also giving fans what they want.

Protagonist of the game

We still don’t know who the protagonist of the game will be. The picture above shows a shinobi or a ninja perched on a rooftop, wielding a sword and the hidden blades and sporting the iconic hooded look of the assassins. But it’s safe to assume that the protagonist will be Japanese.

It is not yet confirmed if the protagonist will be male or female, or even transgender or non-binary. Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade, the upcoming mobile game set in China will have a custom character creator, so Codename Red could have that feature.

Release and platforms

There is no confirmed release date but it’s speculated that Codename Red will release in 2024, since Mirage is releasing next year. The game will most likely be on PS5, Xbox Series S|X and PC, but it’s possible that the game will release on last-gen consoles too.

Although fans are eager to get a glimpse at the gameplay of Codename Red, it looks like they have to wait for a while to see gameplay footage. Even though the game is still early in development, Ubisoft has released a teaser for the game. Watch it below:
