Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to Add “River Raids” Mode in the Next Update

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is getting a whole new set of content via its Title Update 1.12 launching today i.e. February 16th, across all platforms. The update is set to include new skills and abilities, a variety of game improvements, and a completely new game mode called River Raids.

So far, Ubisoft has not shared a lot of info about the new game mode but from the company’s post on the official Valhalla webpage, we know the following:

  • Prepare your Jomsviking crew for this new highly replayable mode that will take you to the unexplored regions of England that’s full of raiding opportunities. New loot, rewards, and challenges await the Raven Clan!
  • The River Raids Mode is part of the Yule Season content. It is free for all Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players, and accessible in-game after downloading Title Update 1.1.2.

In addition to River Raids, Valhalla will also see new skills and abilities pop up in the game. One of these new abilities will be the Berserker Trap which attaches a trap to your arrow that spreads hallucinatory powder. New abilities will also include Battle Cry and Shoulder Bash. With the former, Eivor lets out a blood-curdling scream that helps in gaining power and scares nearby enemies while with the latter, Eivor uses a shoulder attack to destroy objects and push back enemies.

While there will be a multitude of new skills for players to add to their arsenal, two of the best will be Assassin Carry and Assassin Slide. With Carry, players can enable auto-carry for an enemy’s body after a successful assasination while with Slide, players can slide into enemies and knock them off balance while sprinting.

As is the case with Title Updates and most other game updates, Valhalla players will have to keep a decent amount of space ready on their respective storage devices. The update will require anywhere between 11 and 20 GB with Xbox Series X|S requiring the most space.

This new update is in line with Valhalla’s post-launch content support which will also continue in March 2021. Next month the game will see the launch of Season 2 which will bring in another game mode, new festivals, gear, and cosmetics. Seasons 3 and 4 are planned for later this year, and two large-scale season pass expansions are also in the works. Wrath of the Druids – inspired by Gaelic myths – is slated to release this spring, and The Siege of Paris is scheduled to arrive sometime this summer.
