AYANEO NEXT 2 announced with discrete Intel ARC or AMD Radeon 6000 GPU

AYANEO NEXT was announced in February this year, a handheld gaming console powered by AMD. Today, the CEO of AYANEO Arthur Zang announced the AYANEO NEXT 2 in a surprising announcement. This will be the world’s first handheld gaming console with discrete Intel ARC or AMD Radeon 6000 GPU. A discrete graphics processor is obviously faster than a mobile integrated GPU and that will be a major selling point of the AYANEO NEXT 2.

Most notebooks, portable game consoles, smartphones, and tablets feature integrated graphics today, but the AYANEO NEXT 2 has taken a different approach and will feature an Intel Alder lake processor with an Arc GPU or an AMD Ryzen 6000 processor with a Radeon 6000 GPU. Although it was not revealed which particular SKUs will be used in the handheld console.

The ‘AYANEO’ console was the world’s first 7nm handheld gaming device powered by AMD Ryzen 5 4500U with 6 cores. The AYANEO NEXT 2 however will go above and beyond with either a 12th gen Intel Alder Lake CPU or a 6nm Ryzen 6000 processor and offer up to 8 Xe-cores.

The design of the AYANEO console is different from AYANEO 2 or AYANEO 2 Geek edition following the company’s continuous change of design with each new console release. The new product is much bigger than its successor, possibly reaching Steam Decks’ size. AYANEO NEXT 2 will also have similar trackpads on each side, indicating that the product might have very good support for Deck certified games.

AYANEO NEXT 2 is also supposed to be upgradable although the exact procedure or possibilities haven’t been revealed yet. As any PC user might know, a discrete graphics card produces a lot more heat than an integrated one.

Overheating is one of the major reasons why it is difficult to include a discrete graphics card in a portable device. Even laptops need to have well-performing cooling systems to prevent overheating and cooling both CPU and a discrete GPU in a handheld console will not be an easy task. So I personally would love to know how AYANEO plans to prevent overheating as no console before has been able to do it with a discrete GPU.

AYANEO already had products lined up for 2022 in the budget and mid-range section with low-powered Intel and AMD APUs in the <300$ range and mid-range products based on AMD Zen3+ Ryzen 6000U series with RDNA2 graphics in the 650-1000$ range. Now it even has the AYANEO NEXT 2  targeting the top premium range with an expected price to be around $1000. This should help AYANEO stay compatible with NINTENDO, Valve and other handheld consoles in 2022.
