Battlefield 2042 Beta to Roll out with a Major Cross-Play Limitation

With Battlefield 2042’s beta finally on the horizon after several delays, fans are soon going to get a taste of what their favorite franchise has to offer.

Unfortunately, you will have to immerse yourself in a fine FPS experience without your friends due to a notable cross-play restriction.

As explained by Screenrant, the Battlefield 2042 beta will not support cross-play parties. Thankfully, the feature will be available when the FPS releases this November 19.

But it seems like for now; players will have to be confined to parties purely within the PS, PC, or Xbox ecosystem.

It must be kept in mind that the FPS will feature cross-play, but players wouldn’t be able to create cross-play parties with their friends.

While cross-play will technically be enabled for Open Beta, Cross-Play Parties will be disabled, meaning friends on different platforms won’t be able to join in squads and play together. However, at launch:

Gen 5 and PC will be able to play together in the same cross-play universe. Gen 4 can play together in the same cross-play universe.

The devs have also decided to rely on separate player pools for Battlefield 2042 when it launches. Due to technical constraints, the FPS on the previous-gen will support 64-players and pack smaller maps.

Xbox One and PS4 gamers will have to play with one another subsequently.

On the other hand, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC players will have to play together as Battlefield 2042 will pack larger maps on the current-gen that can house 128 players.

Crossplay parties will exist between consoles that belong to the same generation.

Battlefield 2042 beta starts on October 6 for those with an EA Access subscription or a pre-order. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also be able to start off their shooting spree during the Early Access period.

The beta will be available to everyone on October 9 and will reach its conclusion by October 9.

About Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 is the seventeenth installment in the Battlefield series developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts. The game is a first-person online multiplayer shooting title. This installment of Battlefield will not feature a single-player campaign mode.

The year is 2042 and the world is in ruins. Natural disasters run rampant, ocean levels have risen, the world economy has collapsed, and the US and Russia are at war. You step into the shoes of a non-patriated soldier – a soldier without a side. The games’ story will be revealed through episodic additions, allowing players to create a future for themselves and other non-pats in a world on the brink of destruction.
