Horizon Forbidden West’s new DLC, Burning Shores, made its way to PlayStation 5 consoles recently. The latest DLC has been praised for its visuals, boss fights and for making Aloy’s journey even richer. However, some players are facing an issue where the Burning Shores DLC doesn’t start when its launched.
Players need to complete Horizon Forbidden West’s main campaign, specifically the Singularity mission, in order to play the Burning Shores DLC. For players on NG+, finishing the story or backing out to a save where the campaign is completed begins the DLC.
If this doesn’t work for you, then follow some of the workarounds listed below:
1. Install Latest Horizon Forbidden West Update
Check whether Horizon Forbidden West is updated to its latest version or not. Players need to have the game’s latest patch 1.21 installed. To check whether the base game is updated to the latest version or not, follow the steps below:
- Highlight the Horizon Forbidden West’s game icon
- Push Options
- Select Check for Update
Horizon Forbidden West should be updated to version 1.021.000 or later in order for Burning Shores to run. Without the update, you won’t be able to access the DLC.
2. Download the Burning Shores DLC
Players may think that the Burning Shores DLC would already be downloaded automatically after its release when it’s not. If the DLC is not downloaded, then follow the steps below to download it manually:
- Highlight Horizon Forbidden West’s game icon
- Press the Options button
- Select Manage Game Content
- Download the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC by pressing X
3. Check PlayStation Compatibility
Even though Horizon Forbidden West has been released for both PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, the Burning Shores DLC is strictly exclusive to PlayStation 5. This means that players owning a PlayStation 4 along with Horizon Forbidden West won’t be able to access the DLC.
However, if you own a PlayStation 5 along with Horizon Forbidden West, upgrade it to the PS5 version if it’s already not upgraded, then download the Burning Shores DLC.
4. Check Storage Space
It is possible that your PlayStation 5 has run out of storage, leading to the console not being able to download Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC. The DLC is about 17 GB so make sure you have enough storage to download it. In order to do so, follow the steps below:
- Go to Settings
- Click Saved Data and Game/App Settings
- Select Saved Data (PS5)
- Select Console Storage
Now you can free up some storage in order to download the Burning Shores DLC on your PlayStation 5.
5. Install Latest System Software Update
Check if the PlayStation 5 console is updated to its latest version. If not, then it needs to be installed to the latest system software update released by Sony. The PlayStation 5’s system software should be running on version 23.01-07.20.00.
PlayStation 5’s system software not being updated to its latest version can limit features and may cause problems in certain games. Make sure you have the latest software update installed in order to avoid any such problems.
These are all the current fixes and workarounds for Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC not starting issue.
If you’re still facing the same issue, then it is recommended to wait for an official patch from Guerilla. Keep an eye out on their official Twitter page as they tweet about latest updates and patches to Horizon Forbidden West from time to time.
