New Call of Duty’s Multiplayer Ditched for Modern Warfare 2 Remaster?

According to new rumors, the Call of Duty 2021 multiplayer is in such bad shape that the one from Modern Warfare 2 Remastered’s could act as a substitute.

Even though the teams behind the Call of Duty games are busier than ever, Activision has confirmed that there will be a fresh addition to the franchise coming out this year. The rumors seem to point to there being trouble in paradise. Despite the addition of Toys for Bob to the development team of Warzone, the workload is still so much that Call of Duty 2021 may suffer.

According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, Call of Duty 2021 may be sacrificing the game’s multiplayer section. This would be a very bold move as the multiplayer mode has been one of the most popular aspects of the game franchise for the past decade. But the franchise does have Warzone to fall back on for now.

Grubb goes on to add that Activision may not rely on the popularity of Warzone alone. There have been several rumors stating that Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer could act as a substitute. The talk about the multiplayer started around 20 minutes in during Grubb’s live stream. He does keep stating that these are all just rumors at this point. The PS3 and Xbox 360 game’s multiplayer was easily one of the most iconic in the franchise’s history. So, there was an undeniable air of disappointment within the community when the MW2 remaster didn’t include it.

There have been reports stating that the next CoD game will return to the Modern Warfare engine. Also, if Activision doesn’t opt to use this tactic, it makes sense on several fronts. It would take pressure off multiple development teams and give CoD fans something demanding for years now. It may also be released as a separate game or an add-on, and we doubt many people would complain over having to pay a little extra.

Activision has so far been able to release their last two games without worrying much about competition from Battlefield. As was revealed this week, this streak will end as Battlefield 6 will be released before the end of 2021, around the same time as Call of Duty 2021 we reckon. The game being packaged along with the MW2 multiplayer remaster could provide an even more significant advantage over the competition than it already holds.
