Cyberpunk 2077 Receives Patch 1.5 with a Massive List of Fixes

Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the rockiest launches in gaming history back in 2020. Cut to today, and CD Projekt Red has put in a lot of work to improve the game and make it playable. Another step in this direction is Patch 1.5, which was released yesterday, and brings a vast list of fixes and improvements for the game.

The ~50GB patch has a lot of new improvements, adds quests, gameplay fixes, free DLC, game optimization, and next-gen improvement for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

This is the fourth major patch released for the game as CD Projekt Red tried to breathe new life into what can only be described as a disaster of a launch for their latest title. It was so bad that Sony changed its otherwise unbreakable rule about refunds, and some investors even sued the studio.

However, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be seeing a resurgence in credibility and popularity as it was titled one of Steam’s most played games in 2021. Patch 1.5 is so extensive that it is looking to address every remaining issue that might still linger in the game.

The update brings 4K resolution with dynamic scaling (at 60fps), ray tracing with local light shadows, and faster load times for the next-gen consoles. The PS5 patch will also add haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features to the DualSense controller.

The speaker on the controller will also be used for holocalls, text messages, and the internal monologues inside V’s head. Players will be able to transfer saves from the PS4 to the PS5.

There are some important PC-specific changes as well. Users will now be able to enable Variable Rate Shedding (VRS), which should boost rendering performance and visual quality. It has fixed an issue that blocks resolution scaling on AMD graphics cards when ray tracing was on. A benchmark mode has also been added to the game.

Several quality-of-life changes have also been made to the game. Players will now be able to rent apartments, and players can customize their starting apartment to a much greater degree. Some actions will also provide temporary buffs such as feeling “Refreshed” after a shower, sleeping regenerating health, and brewing coffee will add the “Energized” buff.

V‘s features, such as hair, makeup, piercings, etc., can be tweaked endlessly for free when using the mirror in apartments and safe houses. Additional hair and makeup selections are now available on the initial character customization screen. The functionality of the in-game clothing has also been adjusted, along with the number of mod slots.

Cyberpunk 2077 may never be completely rid of bugs, but the improvements are very welcome to make it an enjoyable experience. With enough updates and patches, the game may finally become what many, including CD Projekt Red, hoped it would have been at launch.

About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
