Cyberpunk 2077 has recently updated its system requirements, and it seems that the game will not be able to support raytracing on AMD’s new cards at launch.
First and foremost, here are the new and updated system requirements for the game, as provided by CD Projekt:
Minimum specs | Recommended | High | Ultra | Ray Tracing Minimum | Ray Tracing High | Ray Tracing Ultra | |
OS | Windows 7 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
CPU | Intel Core i5-3570K or AMD FX-8310 | Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G | Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G | Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G | Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
RAM | 8GB | 12GB | 12GB | 16GB | 16GB | 16GB | 16GB |
GPU | Nvidia GTX 780 or AMD Radeon RX 470 | Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB/GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 470 | Nvidia RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700XT | Nvidia RTX 2080S/RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT | Nvidia RTX 2060 | Nvidia RTX 3070 | Nvidia RTX 3080 |
VRAM | 3GB | 6GB | 6GB | 8GB | 6GB | 8GB | 10GB |
Storage | 70GB HDD | 70GB SSD | 70GB SSD | 70GB SSD | 70GB SSD | 70GB SSD | 70GB SSD |
From this, it becomes pretty clear that anyone that may have been able to get the latest AMD graphics card, say, an RX 6800 XT, won’t be able to play the game with raytracing enabled.
As many started questioning about what’s happening, CD Projekt Red’s global community lead came out on Twitter saying that while support for raytracing won’t be available to AMD users at launch, they are consistently working towards making it available as soon as possible. Here’s what he tweeted out:
Some also suggested that because Nvidia is partnered up with CD Projekt as an “official technology partner” to bring raytracing to the game, they are getting some form of exclusivity period with the game’s best settings.
Well, whatever the case may be, let’s all hope for Cyberpunk 2077’s successful launch on December 10th and pray that the game does not get further delayed.

About Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.
Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
