To say that Cyberpunk 2077 has been on a rocky road since launch would be a bit of an understatement. To recap, the game debuted with shockingly bad performance on previous-gen consoles was the subject of a mismanaged and expensive refund drive, which subsequently led to the game being removed from the PS Store, experienced a drastic dip in sales, and also saw its entire code leaked online. Phew!
Ever since this onslaught of problems, CD Projekt Red has been trying its best to make amends by delivering a series of patches/hotfixes for the game across platforms. The process is still ongoing as there are plenty of patches yet to come, but according to CDPR, the fixes have made significant improvements to Cyberpunk.
In a presentation that detailed the company’s performance in Q1 2021, CDPR also shared a chart that showcased the overall crash rate for Cyberpunk 2077 from January 2021 to May 2021.
As you can see below, the crash rate has come down over the given period, albeit not consistently. Five patches and hotfixes are marked out on the timeline, with Patch 1.1 bringing the largest drop in crash rate on the entire chart and other patches/hotfixes making smaller dents.
The most significant spike in crash rate was seen after the release of Patch 1.2, followed by a dip, a pattern followed by the subsequent two hotfixes.
However, there is one glaring issue with the chart: there is no hard data on the Y-axis, so it is difficult to determine at what point in time a particular series of crashes started and how much time it took to have them resolved.
So, while the chart could inspire one to be hopeful, it doesn’t clarify how efficient CDPR was in dealing with the crashes.
Reduction in crashes or not, there is still a lot of work that yet to be done on Cyberpunk 2077. With poor optimization, graphical and stability issues still dogging players on all platforms, the work done on the game this year will determine its long-term success.
As you can see in the roadmap above, it will be an eventful year for CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077 as a slew of patches and DLC are slated to arrive for the game. However, developers must focus on improving the game qualitatively instead of adding new content.
