CDPR Confirms that Players Have to Return Cyberpunk 2077 After Refund

CD Projekt Red has informed players in an email that they have to eventually return their refunded copies of Cyberpunk 2077. This includes both physical and digital copies of the game.

Ever since its release, Cyberpunk 2077 has run into one problem after another. The bugs and glitches were so persistent in the game that it ended up being delisted from Sony’s PlayStation Store. The gaming experience had been so troubling that CDPR offered to refund the players who bought the game.

Many players were annoyed that they had to return their copies of the game after being refunded.

While it seems like an unfair ask, for the most part, it appeared like CDPR was going to let refunded players keep their copy of Cyberpunk 2077. But now, CDPR is asking the players to return their copies.

CD Projekt Red has informed Cyberpunk 2077 players via mail that the players, who have opted for a refund and have got it, have to return their copies of the game. This includes both digital as well as physical copies of the game.

Patrick Klepek, from VICE, shared the email being sent out by CDPR on his Twitter.

The email mentions that the studio would be eventually “arranging disc returns” for people who have received refunds for physical copies of the game. Thus, players need to “hold on to them for now” while the studio looks for “the least disruptive solution” for the refund process.

Organizing a mass return of discs to multiple retailers, especially during a pandemic, would not be an easy task for CDPR. The players who have already been given their money back would not have an incentive to show up to retailers to return the game’s physical versions. Thus, it makes the return process very complicated.

It is relatively easy to remove the game from a player’s library when it comes to the digital versions. But the same cannot be said for the physical versions.

The players who still have a copy of the game can give it a whirl as the developers have released the first significant update to the game in the form of a patch.

About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
