CDPR’s Studio Head Addresses Bloomberg’s Report on Cyberpunk 2077 Mismanagement

CD Projekt Red’s Studio Head has recently addressed a report on Cyberpunk 2077 mismanagement. The report was from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier alleging that the studio ignored internal warnings about Cyberpunk 2077’s performance.

Ever since the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has had to deal with one problem after another. From getting delisted from the PlayStation Store to class-action lawsuits, their troubles do not seem to end.

The latest of the studio’s worries is an insider report written by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. The report alleges that CDPR ignored internal warnings about Cyberpunk 2077’s performance issues and showed an entirely fake demo during E3 in 2018. Moreover, employees violated company rules by speaking Polish while being in the same room as non-Polish co-workers.

CDPR’s Studio Head, Adam Badowski, addressed Schreier’s report via Twitter. He made a long post countering the points made by Schreier in his report.

Around half of Badowski’s statements challenge the fake demo report, which was shown during E3. He described that the demo was a part of the development process and how games are not made in a “linear fashion.” Badowski claimed that the final game looks and plays much better than the demo.

Regarding the accusations that CDPR was aware of the game’s performance issues and yet chose to ignore it, Badowski does not outright deny that claim. He chooses to find faults with how Schreier worded his report where he mentioned most of the staff was aware of the issues. Countering Schreier, Badowski said,

“You’ve talked with 20 people, some being ex-employees, only 1 of whom is not anonymous. I wouldn’t call that “most” of the over 500-people staff openly said what you claim.”

Schreier’s report puts forth some serious accusations. He claims that the staff was pressured to work overtime despite being told that overtime was not mandatory. He also mentions that some of the staff “lost their families” due to work commitments. The troubling aspect of Badowski’s response is that he does not even acknowledge these allegations.

CDPR is currently working to fix the bugs present in all versions of Cyberpunk 2077. Co-founder Marcin Iwiński issued an apology via Twitter about the state in which the studio launched the game.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
