Steam Users Able to Check Games’ Compatibility with Steam Deck

The Steam Deck is now less than 48 hours from launch, and those who were able to pre-order the system last year are first in line to get it delivered. However, a new gaming console is only as strong as the game library backing it up.

Thankfully, Steam is one of the largest game platforms currently active, but how many are compatible with the Steam Deck? You can now find out yourself.

Valve has been busy testing many games for the Steam Deck to ensure compatibility and has had a hard time finding a game that does not work with the system. However, this does not mean that every game is instantly compatible. Fans are going to, understandably, want to know which games will be able to run perfectly on the system.

They can now do this by logging into their Steam accounts on the Steam Deck section of the site and seeing a breakdown of all their games’ compatibility. They are divided into four categories, depending on how well they will run on the Steam Deck.

The first category is the Steam Deck Verified games, which Valve themselves have vetted to work perfectly on the device. Users can download and boot these games without making any sort of modifications to them.

The second category is the Deck Playable games, which Valve has verified will work on the device but might need some finetuning for a seamless experience.

The third category is the unsupported games, which have been confirmed to currently not function on the Steam Deck. Developers of these games could still make changes to these games, so they become compatible in the future, but that is up to individual developers.

The last category is populated by many games, as Valve has not yet tested them. These games may work perfectly, or not at all; given the sheer number of games in the Steam catalog, it will take Valve some time to check them all.

Once the first Steam Deck purchasers get their system and start to find out which games work and which don’t, we will have a better idea of the library by the time the next shipment is set to roll out.
