CoD 2021 Shows Up on Battle.net and PSN Under a Codename

As we enter the second half of the year, chatter continues to grow about the next Call of Duty game. Dubbed ‘Vanguard’ (unofficially), players are already wondering what to expect from Activision’s next shooter.

Well, it seems even platforms are now getting ready to host the game as CoD 2021 has shown up on both PSN & Battle.net under the codename “Slipstream.” The game has also been updated almost daily ever since it was added to the service.

First spotted by BlizzTrack developer Helba, who tracks library and store updates to Battle.net. They said they have also noticed that Slipstream has been updated over the past few days.

Besides CDN manifests, Helba said they also spotted several developer builds and even a logo. Slipstream’s logo looks inspired by games like Medal of Honor, and also, on some levels, confirms that the game will be based during World War 2.

The fact that Slipstream is referred to as “COD2021” in the code confirms that it is indeed this year’s Call of Duty game. It was also, curiously, referred to as “Fore.” Not many games exist on Battle.Net, which have not been identified, so even without these hints, Helba was pretty confident this was a Call of Duty.

The new installment has been referred to as Vanguard by many prominent leakers, so it’s presumed that Slipstream is just a codename to hide the game’s identity on Battle.net before it is officially announced.

Call of Duty Black Cold War

Call of Duty games in the past have also carried such nicknames. For example, Black Ops Cold War was nicknamed “The Red Doors,” Modern Warfare was “Pavelous,” World War 2 was referred to as “Storm Flood,” and Infinite Warfare was “Greentables.”

Slipstream has also been spotted on the PSN. This comes from Twitter user ‘PlayStation Game Size’ who tweeted the Slipstream logo and called it Call of Duty 2021 Alpha. It is currently shown as 35GB, and no release date has been listed.

We’ll have to wait longer for Activision to announce the game officially. As of now, all we know is a tentative title and setting, so more details are required to know whether it should be added to our “Must Buy” games list.

About Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard

Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard (working title) is an upcoming first-person-shooter by Sledgehammer Games. The game will throw players into all the action in World War II, much like 2017’s Call of Duty: WWII. Currently, the game has no confirmed release date.
