The popular franchise Call of Duty is a battle royale game enjoyed by a massive community of players worldwide. The game is riddled with cheaters, and it remains a headache for players and developers alike.
Activision took on a more solid approach to the issue; hence, Ricochet was created to combat unfair practices in the game.
Ricochet published a report highlighting new anti-cheat measures, including “Disarm,” which makes the cheater’s weapons vanish.
To go beyond just simply banning, the team at Ricochet has introduced specific mitigations for a much more severe impact. The cheaters are observed under the radar for a long time to understand their methods’ trends and patterns better.
Cheaters, for some reason, feel superior using software to win games they have no business winning. Hitting them with mitigations transform those euphoric feelings of being fake-best into glorious pangs of annoyance.
Ricochet
Some of these mitigations are:
- Disarm: takes away the cheater’s weapons, including their fists
- Damage Shield: restricts the damage done by a cheater’s gunfire to the minimum
- Cloaking: causes in-game players who the cheater has hit to become invisible
Ever since Ricochet came into action, there has been a significant drop in the number of in-game cheaters. However, new tricks and tools are constantly surfacing, so the team has to be working round-the-clock. The infamous ban waves frequently remove thousands of players at once and remain the ultimate action.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the next installment in the series and will be released on 28th October. The game will also be available on Steam.
