Get Ready for Competitive Air Races in Microsoft Flight Simulator!

Gamescom 2021 has begun, and Microsoft has taken the opportunity to let fans know of a significant addition coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The next World Update will add a bunch of new landmarks and locations in Central Europe, as was shown in the trailer featured during the event. But that’s not all that’s coming to the game.

Everyone’s favorite Flight Simulator will now be getting a brand new competitive multiplayer mode. This is mainly due to the publisher’s recently announced partnership with the Reno Air Racing Association. The high-flying competition will be added to the game via a DLC.

The DLC, titled Reno Air Races, will allow players to compete in the Stihl National Championship Air Races. The competition will take place up to 250ft above the Nevada desert and will have you zipping across the sky at 500 miles per hour.

While the 2020 version of the game already introduced an online multiplayer component, the latest DLC will bring competitive multiplayer for the first time to the simulation series. This will allow players to race against their friends or other players as well.

The update will include a range of high-performance planes for players to control, a few of which were shown in the thirty-second teaser trailer.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get too much gameplay. All we got to see was a few seconds of one vs. one action spliced with dramatic shots of planes on the runway. But it’s still a significant addition to the simulator and welcome addition for air racing fans.

Reno Air Races will debut in the fall, but we didn’t get a specific release date. Until it’s out, fans will have to suffice with the upcoming World Update 6 releasing on September 7th.

The update is focused on the central European nations of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

It will add much more detail to some major cities, including a bunch of new landmarks and the famous Matterhorn in the Alps.

The new World Update and the addition of the competitive air races are steps Asobo Studios is taking to make Microsoft Flight Simulator a comprehensive virtual flying experience.
