Cyberpunk 2077 ‘I Fought the Law’ Choices Guide

‘I Fought the Law’ is a lengthy side quest in Cyberpunk 2077 that will put you in a dilemma. To be eligible for this job, you will first have to complete the ‘Life During Wartime’ quest. You will have to make many choices, though most of them won’t impact the storyline.

The side quest covers a lot of aspects of the RPG. Players will have to do detective work to get to the bottom of the Mayor’s death. I Fought the Law will make you explore the alleys of Night City looking for answers, meet new characters, and fight if required.

1. Meeting Elizabeth and Jefferson Peralez

The quest will start after Elizabeth Peralez’s calls and asks you to meet with her and Jefferson Peralez in Heywood, The Glen. If you accept the job, you will have to drive there.

Upon reaching the location, you will be able to spot them in a parked car waiting for you. Interaction with them will lead the couple to ask V to investigate Mayor Rhyne’s mysterious death.

It is said that the mayor suffered a heart attack. However, the Peralezes feel that this is a lie and want you to examine a braindance.

Moreover, they have a theory that suggests that a police officer killed Lucius Rhyne since the mayor decided to reduce the budget of NCPD.

2. Inspecting the Braindance

There are a total of six clues in the braindance, which you must scan to have clarity over the Mayor’s death. Out of the six clues, four are visual, while two comprise of audio.

Here are all the clips that will help you with your investigation.

3. Talk to Jefferson Dialogue Choice Guide

Here are the three dialogues that you’ll have to choose from:

  1. Too early to tell: If you choose this dialogue option, Jefferson will simply agree with you.
  2. Think you might be onto something: Jefferson will be ecstatic to know that you support his conjecture.
  3. Pure coincidence, looks like: Choosing this option will make Jefferson and Elizabeth disagree with V.

After this interaction, Jefferson will ask you if you have any questions. You should capture this opportunity if you are looking to gain some additional information regarding Holt and Red Queen’s Race.

4. Calling and Meeting Detective River Ward

Talking to Detective River Ward

To go into the depths of Rhyne’s murder, V will call detective River Ward, who is also a romance option in the game.

The detective will ask you to meet him at Chubby Buffalo. Here, he will introduce V to his partner, Detective Han.

Ward will also ask who you are working for, so reveal it to him, or he wouldn’t join hands with you. V and Ward will talk about Peter Horváth, a cyberpsycho, and will start to look for the Red Queen Race Club’s location.

5. Sit in Ward’s car

Go to River Ward to his car. You will have to visit two NPCs to gain intel on the Red Queen Race Club and Peter Horváth. You will have to visit Horváth’s boss and River’s CI. You can visit anyone first.

i. Let’s go see his (Péter Horváth’s) boss.

The Vendor with a Blue Stall

If you choose this choice, you will drive to Cherry Blossom Market in Japantown. Ward will suggest that you ask for Christine Markov on the right side of the market while he will search the left.

After interacting with the vendor with a blue stall, you will uncover that Christine has a stall on the market’s opposite side.

A marker will lead you to Christine, and you will also see River Ward there waiting for you.

Here, Christine will ask you who you are, and you will have to choose between three choices. No matter what option you go ahead with, it will not impact the story.

When you ask Christine about Horváth, she will confirm that he worked for her. Then after being imprisoned, he started being a bit peculiar.

ii. Meet with River’s CI

Information from Neil

Here, River will drop you outside a shop and ask you to interact with his CI yourself. River also instructs you to say “Igor says hi” upon seeing the CI.

When V heads inside the shop and talks to Neil, the CI acts like a tough nut and doesn’t divulge anything.

After you tell Neil that Igor said hi to him, he will escape. Luckily, River Ward prevented him from doing so by blocking the path.

It will be tough to extract any information from Neil, but he will finally give in and disclose that Peter’s in Bonita Street.

6. How to Handle the Tyger Claws situation?

When you are sitting in the car with River, Tyger Claws will surround your vehicle. You will easily deal with them if you have chosen the Street Kid lifepath in CP2077. However, being a Nomad or Corpo might trigger them to get aggressive.

The best thing you can do is to let River Ward handle the situation. No casualty will take place if Ward speaks.

7. Entering the Warehouse

i. Reaching the location

After you got the CI to reveal Peter Horváth’s location, you will have to go to a warehouse. It lies in Santo Domingo in Rancho Coronado. Instead of driving, a fast travel point can be used to get there.

Upon reaching the location, players will have to find a way to head inside the Animals Warehouse.

ii. Finding a Way to Enter the Warehouse

From the entrance, move left, and keep moving along the wall. You will find an opening with a flight of stairs leading you to a vent. From here, move to the rightmost corner of the room and climb up into the building above.

Now enter the main building, which is teeming with enemies guarding the place. You can also disable the cameras using quickheads, then follow your marker.

Talking about enemies, you can either fight them all or use stealth to get to your location.

8. How to enter the Red Queen’s Race?

i. Entering the club

Once inside the main building, you will spot a yellow rectangle on the mini-map. Here, all you need to do is find a secret entrance to the club. To do so, reach the container on the right of the yellow tape one.

This will open the gate, and you will be able to go downstairs to the elevator that will take you to the Red Queen’s Race.

ii. Searching for the office

You will have to use your combat skills to void the area of enemies. You can also explore to loot, given that the place brims with resources.

To get to the office, go up the stairs by using the door on the left.

iii. Interacting with the footage

Go to the lounge area on the left and put on the braindance headset. This will bring you to a new conclusion regarding the Mayor’s death. V will believe that it was no heart attack but a spiked braindance that killed Rhyne.

9. Talking to Detective Han

Talking to Detective Han

After you leave the club and are back at Chubby Buffalo, River will be enthusiastic to square up to Detective Han. After interaction with the Detective, River will claim that the Deputy Mayor, Weldon Holt, killed Rhyne to claim the Mayor’s position.

After listening to what River has to say, V will have the following dialogue options:

  1. Sounds about right: If you choose this dialogue, River Ward will involve the Internal Affairs department to seek justice for the Mayor.
  2. Got no proof: If you go ahead with this dialogue, Ward will bring back the spiked braindance that damaged your health. He would still want to pursue the case.
  3. Nah, wasn’t like that: Here, V will simply believe that the case has more to it than what meets the eye.

No matter which dialogue you choose, there is no stopping River Ward from going after NCPD.

10. Concluding talks with Elizabeth and Jefferson Peralez

To end the mission, you will go to Peralezes penthouse to let them know the conclusion of your long investigation.

When Jefferson asks you who killed the Mayor, here are the options you can choose.

  1. Holt: If you claim Holt murdered the Rhyne, Jefferson would be thrilled and will go ahead to say that he knew it all along.
  2. No idea: The couple will be appreciative if you choose this dialogue for risking your life and trying to get at the bottom of this case. Moreover, Elizabeth will tell her husband that they should tread carefully.
  3. Police: If you blame the Police for Mayor Rhyne’s death, the couple would be fine with the idea of that. They will be glad to know that the suspicion of the Mayor not dying of a heart attack was correct.

If you aim to please the couple, go ahead and point the finger at Holt as he is the name that the Peralezes wants to hear the most.
