Cyberpunk 2077 Returns to PS Store? CDPR Feels it Should

In a never-before-seen move, Sony had taken Cyberpunk 2077 off the PlayStation Store just days after it had released. The title on the PS4 had suffered so many bugs and glitches that most players found the game unplayable, forcing Sony to refund Cyberpunk 2077 copies alongside CD Projekt Red. This was even more surprising given Sony’s staunch stand against offering refunds.

CD Projekt Red now believes that with the recent patches, they have made enough improvements to the game for Cyberpunk 2077 to be listed on the PlayStation Store again. Since the disaster of a launch, CDPR has been busy pushing out patches for the game to make it playable across all platforms. Each patch for every platform sought to fix some bug or glitch faced by the players. So, it’s safe to say that Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way from what it was at launch.

Paraphrased, Michał Nowakowski made these comments on behalf of CDPR yesterday during an investor call. Nowakowski, SVP of business development, noted that the recent 1.2 patch, the largest one from the studio till date, reportedly corrected over 500 bugs and glitches across all game platforms. Nowakowski believes that this patch, and all the ones before it, have bought Cyberpunk 2077 closer to returning to the PlayStation Store.

However, he did note that the final decision for this move rests with Sony. Sony had stated that they would not be ready to add the game back to the store until it was totally fixed. If they are adamant on this position, then the game still has a way to go before it can find its place on the Store again, especially considering the PC port.

Some fans have also reported that patch 1.2 has actually made Cyberpunk 2077’s performance worse on the PC. The game currently runs the best on PC, so if the patch has made the experience worse on the PC, it may have also caused some unforeseen bugs and glitches on the PS4 and Xbox One versions as well.

The other side of the coin for the worse performance on PC may be a sign that making Cyberpunk 2077 run better on the lesser gaming systems jeopardizes its performance on the higher quality ones, such as the PS5. Either ways, Sony wouldn’t host the game on its Store until the game is 100 % playable. Currently, there is no news from Sony confirming that Cyberpunk 2077 will return to the PlayStation Store.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
