Cyberpunk 2077 Rumored to Add Support For Real-Time Radiance Caching

Cyberpunk 2077’s infamous broken launch in 2020 isn’t forgotten by the gaming community. But the developers have worked hard and taken a step in the right direction to make the game as good as possible. Even though some areas of the game still need some work, the overall state of the game is way better than it was during launch.

The game also recently added an Overdrive mode for its Ray Tracing which improved the already present feature. Other than that, Cyberpunk also supports all upscaling technologies like FSR2.0, DLSS3 and XeSS. But it looks like CD Projekt Red and NVIDIA might implement support for a new feature in the game.

A new rumor from CapFrameX on Twitter states that Cyberpunk 2077 might receive a new technology called Real-Time Neural Radiance Caching for Path Tracing. This is basically a means of replacing model pretraining with generalization via adaptation.

The concept of this technology was first published in a research paper by NVIDIA back in 2021 by researchers themselves, but it looks like they might be adding support for this new technology in Cyberpunk 2077. This technology can be used for path-traced global illumination that enables dynamic content prediction.

The system is designed to handle fully dynamic scenes, and makes no assumptions about the lighting, geometry, and materials. If the rumor about Cyberpunk adding support for this technology is true, then the game is about to look better than ever graphically.

But as of now, it’s still a rumor, and neither NVIDIA nor CD Projekt Red have said anything about adding this technology to the game. This technology could very well be added to the game when the Phantom Liberty DLC arrives later this year.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is set to release later this year for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia and PC.

About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
