Cyberpunk 2077 Will Return to the PS Store on June 21

CD Projekt Red’s controversial RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will regain its presence on the PS Store after it was removed in December 2020, a mere two weeks after release. CD Projekt, CDPR’s parent company, announced the development in a regulatory report which was then confirmed by the folks at Polygon after a chat with a Sony spokesperson.

“SIE can confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 will be re-listed on PlayStation Store starting June 21, 2021,”

the Sony spokesperson said in an email.

“Users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD Projekt Red continues to improve stability across all platforms. SIE recommends playing the title on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the best experience.”

Cyberpunk 2077 returns to PlayStation’s digital store after developer CD Projekt Red’s release of a set of significant patches and hotfixes for the game.

These updates are a part of CDPR’s roadmap to fix the game and have targeted the landmine of bugs that the game, sadly, came preloaded with. However, the good news is that these fixes have improved the game’s performance.

After a successful but extremely rocky release, Sony delisted Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store due to how badly it performed on not just old-gen consoles, but the new-gen PS5 as well.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) said in a statement at the time that it “strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction” and subsequently removed the game from its digital store.

Additionally, many believe that CDPR telling displeased gamers to reach out to SIE for refunds without conferring with SIE first might have played a part in its removal from the PS Store.

Thankfully, this did not stop SIE from pledging full refunds to customers who purchased the digital version of Cyberpunk 2077 from their digital store.

Sony’s action was followed by an apology from CD Projekt execs, in which CD Projekt management admitted to

“not showing the game on base last-gen consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase.”

In January, Marcin Iwiński, founder of parent company CD Projekt, issued a more detailed apology and also outlined a long-term plan to fix Cyberpunk 2077, which would kick off with a series of major patches designed to fix performance, gameplay, and numerous other issues.

Cyberpunk 2077 — Our Commitment to Quality

This should come as some much-needed good news to CD Projekt Red as the developer is still dealing with a myriad of issues. The company is down $51 Million due to refunds and is also trying to get Cyberpunk 2077’s and The Witcher 3’s stolen source code back. The company is also battling it out in court as it is involved in a series of lawsuits.

About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
