Cyberpunk 2077’s Crunch Is Not as Bad as People Say!

CD Projekt’s Co-CEO Adam Kicinski, when asked in an investor’s call regarding the latest delay of Cyberpunk 2077, is holding up; he stated that the development team’s crunch is not that bad and never really was in the first place.

Many will remember how, back in May of last year, CD Projekt promised people that a ‘more humane’ approach would be followed regarding crunch in Cyberpunk 2077’s development. While it did not promise to eliminate it, they did state that crunch will be most certainly be reduced.

Of course, this didn’t take place at all, seeing how this year, the game’s development team had to work way past their regular hours and that too, from their homes.

Now that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed till December, many are eager to know whether the crunch will continue or not.

In a call with the investors regarding the game’s delay, Kiciński stated that the crunch at the studio is “not that bad—and never was.”

“Of course it’s a story that has been picked up by the media, and some people have been crunching heavily, but a large part of the team is not crunching at all since they have finished their work. It’s mostly about Q&A and engineers, programmers—but it’s not that heavy. Of course, it will be extended a bit, but we have feedback from the team; they’re happy about the extra three weeks, so we don’t see any threats regarding crunch.”

Not to mention, in the same call, he also stated how Cyberpunk 2077 is ready for PC and next-gen consoles but is causing problems on the current-gen PS4 and Xbox One.

“The game is ready for the PC and runs great on the next-gen consoles, and could be shipped on the scheduled date on those platforms. However, even though the game has been certified on the current gens by both Sony and Microsoft, some very final optimization processes for such a massive and complex game require a bit of additional time.” He also stated how the extra three weeks could help the team further their tweaks and improvements on the game to a satisfactory point.

Vice president of business development Michal Nowakowski also stated how the game didn’t have any actual problems, but general polishing and optimization work was required for the current-gen consoles.

Whatever the case may be, all we can do now is wait as patiently as we can to explore the world of Cyberpunk 2077.
