Cyberpunk 2077’s Online Mode Might Never See the Light of the Day!

Whenever I see CD Projekt Red written somewhere, I automatically assume terrible news. It pains me to say that I’m never wrong either.

This time the Polish devs have revealed that they are reconsidering their original stand on Cyberpunk 2077‘s online mode.

What was CD Projekt Red’s original stance on Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer?

The Polish game makers disclosed in December 2020 that enthusiasts could expect Cyberpunk 2077 to pack a multiplayer mode. More information on the same was expected to follow in the first quarter of 2021. Unfortunately, CDPR has now killed any hope of the game’s online mode release.

As a part of the company’s strategy update, CD Projekt Red unveiled a roadmap detailing the changes in the company’s focus and plans. The most notable change is that Cyberpunk 2077 will not receive a standalone multiplayer mode. CDPR, however, discussed bringing a potential technology that’ll bring the online mode into all of their franchises one day.

CDPR Joint CEO Adam Kicinski said,

“Previously we hinted that our next triple-A would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but we have decided to reconsider this plan,”

“Given our new systematic and more agile approach, instead of primarily focusing on one big, online experience, or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day. We are building an online technology that can be seamlessly integrated into the development of our future games,”

he added.

With Cyberpunk 2077 now confirmed to continue in the absence of online mode, one can get the action-adventure game to receive patch updates, exciting DLCs, and next-gen support.

As disappointed as I was with this news, I think it’s essential we understand that CDPR has its hands full right now.

It all started with a Disastrous launch where the game was brimming with bugs, then delisting from the PS store, followed by nightmarish legal cases

The series of unfortunate events that CDPR faced is endless. You can read every up and down related to Cyberpunk 2077 here.

For now, I’ll be more than stoked to enjoy my adventures in the Night City devoid of life-sucking bugs. The Polish game makers should address the hundreds of issues they’re facing right now than going overboard and end up being the center of another controversy.

About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
