Cyberpunk Got An Unfair Amount of Sh*t: Josef Fares of ‘It Takes Two’

Amid a botched game launch which involved a bug-infested release for Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles and the unfortunate series of events that followed, CD Projekt Red has been facing severe flak from almost every party involved in the gaming industry. But the Polish game developers seem to have found prominent film and game director Josef Fares in their corner.

In a chat with Geoff Keighley on the iOS exclusive Twitter Spaces, the director of the upcoming co-op ‘It Takes Two’ defended CDPR when asked by a fan about the challenges of game development during a pandemic. Fares said he counted himself lucky that most of his in-person work, motion capture, fell in between the multiple Covid-19 lockdowns. This helped ‘It Takes Two’ catch its March 26th release date.

Going on in this vein, he expressed sympathy for other developers that have been trying to keep work going in these tough times. And that led to the mention of CDPR and its now infamous latest release.

Fares expressed concern for the company in light of all the vitriol that was thrown its way after Cyberpunk’s launch.

“Cyberpunk got an unfair amount of sh*t,”

Josef Fares

The fan who asked the question countered with “You think it was unfair?” to which Fares underscored the witch hunt that took place after the game dropped.

In conclusion, it seems that Fares supports going a little easy on CDPR due to the global scenario in which the game was released.

‘It Takes Two’ is Fares’ next major outing under Hazelight Studios after ‘A Way Out and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons’. The co-op action-adventure title is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4/ 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S and interestingly, will have no single-player option; the game must be played on either online or local split screen co-op between two players.

About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
