Sega is Bringing the New Demon Slayer Game to the West This October

Initially slated for a Japan-only release, Sega has confirmed that Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles will also arrive in North America and Europe on October 15.

Developed by CyberConnect2 (DragonBall Z: Kakarot and Naruto: Ultimate Ninja), the video game based on the popular Demon Slayer anime and the Mugen Train film will be released on PS4/5, PC (via Steam), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The announcement was accompanied by a new story trailer that features the cast of the original anime.

The story of the game of the anime and the game seem pretty similar, and it won’t be a surprise if we get to see some of the anime’s most iconic moments recreated in the game.

In fact, you’ll see some moments recreated in the trailer below itself, so if you’re not fully caught up with the anime, we advise that you press play with caution.

The game will tell the story of Tanjiro Kamado and follow the “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc” and “Mugen Train Arc.” Here is the game’s official description via Polygon:

“It is the Taisho Period in Japan. Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon. To make matters worse, his younger sister Nezuko, the sole survivor, has been transformed into a demon herself.

Though devastated by this grim reality, Tanjiro resolves to become a “demon slayer” so that he can turn his sister back into a human and kill the demon that massacred his family.”

Along with detailing the game, Sega also revealed the three versions of The Hinokami Chronicles that fans will get to choose from. There are the staples – a standard physical and a digital copy – and a Digital Deluxe Edition, which will come loaded with a bunch of additional content.

This content includes 8,000 “slayer points,” three Butterfly Mansion skins, twelve character avatars for players on PS4/5 and Steam, four character-unlock keys, and a custom PS4 theme.

Fans who buy the standard digital edition will also get to access few of these bonuses, namely one character key, two-character avatars, and the aforementioned PS4 theme.

Those who put down a pre-order will also get their fair share of extras, with each edition offering one or two bonus character keys and a range of other benefits depending on the platform.

These benefits range from character avatars to playing the game two days early, but the latter will be exclusive to the Digital Deluxe Edition.

It is evident that Sega has a lot to offer to not just the loyal fans but to new ones as well.

If you’re looking to get a taste of what the game might be like, we recommend you watch the anime’s movie adaptation Mugen Train, which is currently the highest-grossing film in Japanese history.
