Details of Intel’s Alder Lake Chip Available Online

We might know more about Intel’s 12th generation processor also known by its codename of Alder Lake pretty soon.

For those unaware of Alder Lake, it is a next-gen processor that is based on hybrid architecture.

While hybrid architecture was mainly used for mobile phones, it is now being utilized for laptops to ensure an efficient and effective performance besides durable battery life.

It is expected that this chipset will be launched in the latter part of 2021 and will cover platforms like mobile phones and desktop. With AMD Ryzen chips focusing on high core-count processing, it is believed that Alder Lake will give AMD Ryzen some tight competition.

It is said the Alder Lake will most probably make use of eight big Golden Cove cores alongside eight rather small Gracemont cores.

Currently, Alder Lake S Chip has popped up on the benchmarking database results of SiSoft Sandra. From there, these results were shared on Twitter by TUM_APISAK.

As seen in the listing, Alder Lake for desktop will have 16 cores and 32 threads. It will also house 1.38GHz of clock speed alongside 10x 1.25MB L2 caches, 30MB L3 cache.

Furthermore, the cache amounts demonstrate that eight big cores will get to deal with 1.25MB L2 cache.

Going forward, it was first expected that Alder Lake S will be compatible with DDR5 memory but looking at the SiSoft Sandra listing, there was no mention of DDR5 but support for DDR4.

This can be a mistake on the benchmarking publication’s part. But for now, it seems that one will have to wait for DDR5’s approval a little longer.

When it comes to bandwidth, the listing further implies that Intel will go toe to toe with AMD Ryzen.

Owing to the utilization of Sabrent Rocket 4.0 NVMe SSD drive can also mean that Alder Lake wholly supports PCIe 4.0. The word on the street is that this 12th gen processor will also be compatible with PCIe 5.0.

Currently, not many doubts are clarified regarding Alder Lake but fortunately, with the chipset set to roll out in 2021, the wait won’t be long.
