The Last of Us Part 2 leaves us with a lot of unanswered questions. Ellie’s journey of revenge takes a toll on her as well as her loved ones. Joel’s death had such a significant impact on Ellie that she was ready to leave everything behind, only if it meant that she would have a chance to kill Abby, the one who killed Joel.
After Ellie’s last fight with Abby which ended in a bloodbath, she stopped going after her and instead settled with Dina on a farm in Wyoming outside the Jackson settlement. Fast forward 18 months, we see Ellie and Dina happily living together and taking care of Dina and Jesse’s baby boy, JJ.
Even if Ellie was living a decent life with Dina and her son on the farm, it is not easy to move on from the death of a loved one. We discover that she’s still suffering from PTSD over Joel’s death.
Tommy’s information about the last known whereabouts of Abby and Lev in California pushed Ellie to take the decision of leaving everything behind and going after them. She believed that the only way she could find closure is by taking Abby’s life.
Dina tells Ellie that Abby doesn’t get to be more important than their family but that doesn’t stop her from leaving. Ellie choosing revenge over Dina and her son is an ultimate breach of trust and safety in their relationship which leads to them breaking up.
Where did Dina go after Ellie left her?
It is currently unknown what happened to Dina at the end of the game. The last time we see Dina is when Ellie leaves her on her quest for revenge against Abby. But there are theories and speculations as to what happened to Dina and her son JJ at the end of the game.
Dina most likely goes back to Jackson, back where all of her loved ones and people that care about her live. Jackson is safe from the violent factions and the infected so it is entirely possible that Dina made the decision of going back there with JJ.
In Jackson, she would find the support and care she needs to raise JJ. Folks like Tommy and her wife Maria would take good care of her in Ellie’s absence. It is very unlikely that she got killed by the infected since she is capable and formidable, as we see throughout the entirety of the game.
What happened to Ellie at the end of the game?
After seeking revenge on Abby and her friends for killing Joel, Ellie decides to spare her and Lev in the final moments of the game. This surprised majority of the fans of the game series as everyone kept wondering that after everything Ellie went through to get to Abby, she let her walk away.
Ellie heads back to their farmhouse in Wyoming, only to find out that the house is cleared out except for her room, which contained her guitar. Ellie starts playing the guitar, reminiscing about her final conversation with Joel. After that Ellie leaves the guitar and walks away.
Will Ellie and Dina get back together in The Last of Us Part 3?
Since The Last of Us Part 3 is already in development, there’s a high chance that Ellie and Dina will get back together, setting aside their differences. Throughout the whole game, we see their love for each other pretty clearly. It’s no surprise that they need each other.
Having a lesbian protagonist isn’t something we normally see in video games so Ellie’s relationship with Dina was a breath of fresh air. We all want what’s best for both of them, as they have gone through difficult times and faced the worst together. If there is a Last of Us Part 3, then I think Ellie will definitely reunite with Dina and JJ.
