Do You Need to Play ‘Hitman: Blood Money’ and ‘Hitman: Absolution’ Before Hitman 3?

Hitman 3 has just come out recently and fans are already ecstatic to play the third part of Hitman Trilogy. Whether you’re new to the franchise or an old Agent 47 fan, you might be thinking if you need to play the previous Hitman 1 and 2 in the series before trying out Hitman 3.

Although all Hitman games in the trilogy have the same mechanisms, Hitman 3 outshines them all with better graphics and improved gameplay.

1. Do You Need to Play Hitman 1 & Hitman 2 Before Hitman 3?

You don’t really need to play the previous Hitman games in the series before playing Hitman 3 since the game is basically a map pack and each mission is customized according to that particular map with no story continuation.

Although, if you’re new to the whole Hitman franchise you might want to start with Hitman 2 to get used to the whole game mechanics and gameplay. But if you are an oldie who is used to Hitman’s playstyle then you can jump straight into Hitman 3 or play the previous games once again just for the sake of it.

Don’t worry about catching up to the story of Hitman 2 since Hitman 3 begins with a small clip of compilations of the missions in Hitman 2 and slowly starts with the aftermath.

There’s also an added feature of Progression Carryover for hardcore gamers who’d love to keep their awesome gaming streak alive throughout the whole trilogy.

2. What is Progression Carryover in Hitman 3?

Hitman 3 like its predecessor Hitman 2 has given the players an option to carryover their progression. This means all the maps, stats, levels up the player achieved in Hitman 2 will be carried over to Hitman 3. The players will then be able play the Hitman 2 maps in Hitman 3.

This progression carryover was first introduced in Hitman 2 a.k.a Hitman Absolution. This was a neat addition to the game mechanics in my opinion. You could not only get the stats and leveled up items from ‘Hitman Blood Money’ and use them in ‘Hitman Absolution’ but you could also play the Blood Money maps and mission in better graphics.

If your Hitman 2 has already had the carryover from Hitman 1 then the whole thing will be carried over to Hitman 3 making you able to play all 3 game maps in Hitman 3’s polished graphics. Remember that the Paris fashion show map in Hitman Blood Money can be played in Hitman 3 using this very carryover technique.

If you don’t own any of the previous Hitman games, you can buy the DLCs to play in Hitman 3 instead.

Just a reminder: Progression Carryover can be done from Hitman 2 to Hitman 3 if the two games are loaded in the same platform. Which means, if you have both Hitman 2 and Hitman 3 in your XBOX then only the progression will be carried over. You can’t do it if Hitman 2 is in XBOX and Hitman 3 is in PC.

3. Is Hitman 3 Better than Hitman 2?

Hitman 3 has improved the game graphics and mechanics to give the player a great experience while playing but it certainly lacks the creativity and the free to roam aspect of Hitman Absolution.

Hitman 2 Miami Mission

Sure, the new Hitman 3 Dubai map is a blast to play but it does lack Hitman 2’s clever assassination techniques, semi-open world experience where you can freely interact with the NPCs and better explorations before jumping into the missions like the Miami mission.

So, Hitman 3 is a good successor to the Hitman franchise but surely not a better option than Hitman 2 in my opinion.

But you can wait for more DLC missions to be added before jumping onto any conclusions.

Developed by IO Interactive, Hitman 3 is a single-player stealth game. Playing as genetically-modified Agent 47, you will be required to take down the leaders of Providence. It is an evil organization that operates in the dark and influences how the world works.

The game will take you to many new locations like Dubai, Berlin, Dartmoor, Chongqin, Mendoza, and Romania to take down the sinister organization. Each mission will serve back-breaking challenges.

With danger looming from every corner, it is only Agent 47 who can restore normalcy in the world.
