Does Nioh have difficulty settings? How to make the game easier?

Nioh is an action RPG title set in medieval Japan developed by Team Ninja and is currently available on PlayStation and Windows. Apart from its strong characters and gripping storyline, the game is famous for its gameplay and combat.

The combat in Nioh can be so difficult that many people compare it to the impossibly hard Dark Souls series or other soulsborne games, and just like Souls, Nioh has difficulty settings issues too.

Nioh does not have an easy mode or difficulty settings. Its sequel, Nioh 2, also doesn’t have the option to adjust the game difficulty settings.

In an interview with Game Revolution, Fumihiko Yasuda, Producer, and Director of Nioh, explained why Team Ninja did not add difficulty settings to the game.

So when we worked on Nioh, it was about establishing a new IP. We did work on a detailed loot system that allowed for deep customization so players could do their own builds.

And we did take some inspiration from other Soulslike games and games like Diablo and Borderlands.

How to make Nioh easier?

Nioh can be made easier by utilizing the following tips and tricks:

I. Invite Other Players to Help you Out

In Nioh, you can use your ochoko cups at a shrine and get yourself some multiplayer backup. The game can sometimes be too punishing, so it is better to summon someone for help rather than persistently trying to do it yourself.

I recommend doing so before every boss battle, so you can enjoy the rest of the game on your own.

II. Grind the Game

Do not try to rush your way through the game. Play the Sub Mission and even replay the previous main missions to earn amrita rewards and other powerful weapons or smithing texts.

III. Use the Game’s Environment to your Advantage

Levels in Nioh are designed very carefully and comprehensively. You can drop attacks on your enemies from higher ground to do severe damage. You can also drive the enemies off the ledges to kill them off, so play smartly.

IV. Be Patient

Nioh is obviously a difficult game, and it is the same for everyone, so be patient. Learn the moves and attack patterns of the enemies and try to beat them over a period of time. It is a beautiful process; you are in it for a long time, so you better enjoy it while it lasts.

Does Nioh have level scaling?

Nioh does not have level scaling. All the enemies stay at the same level throughout the game based on the particular level.

So, if you grind a little early in the game and accumulate a lot of experience, abilities, and fancy gear, then you can easily crush the enemies in the early stages.

Is Nioh harder than Dark Souls?

Dark Souls

Nioh is harder than the Dark Souls series and all the other soulsborne games because it has a lot of combat mechanics, and they are hard to master.

Luckily, it is not purely a skill-based game. Nioh is an RPG and has a loot system, so you can always grind the early levels of the game to get overpowered weapons and stats to sail through the rest of the game easily.

How long it takes to beat Nioh?

It takes 144 hours to 100% complete Nioh, according to the website HowLongToBeat.

However, if you are only interested in the game’s story, it will take you “merely” 44 hours to complete the entire main storyline. Additionally, finishing every side quest in the game will cost you extra 32 hours.
