EA Origin to be Renamed as EA Desktop App

In one of their recent interviews with GamesIndustry.biz, Mike Blank, the senior vice president of Electronic Arts, stated that EA’s Origin App is now being renamed and rebranded to EA Desktop App.

Over the past few months, one cannot help to not ignore the efforts of Electronic Arts to improve their image in the industry.

From the release of buggy games, unnecessary pressure being put on developers to an actual lawsuit involving their design and selling philosophy, many red flags have certainly been raised for the company.

Only last month, EA removed their subscription service, the Origin Access for PC, and since then has introduced EA Play in its place.

Even the E3 Presentations that the company will hold from now on will be called EA Play Live.

Another announcement was of their newly-formed collaboration with Microsoft, in which EA Play will merge with the Xbox Game Pass for PC.

But why change the name, though?

Talk about going from being called something cool to being downright bland!

Honestly speaking, it didn’t seem like there was anything particularly wrong with the name “Origin,” but to each his own, I suppose.

Among all this, Mike Blank also stated how the current application for EA games will be receiving a visual overhaul and will now focus on creating a seamless experience that focuses on player-interactions.

It certainly makes you dubious of what EA is trying to pull here. Then again, the name change doesn’t make a whole lot of difference other than simply being a part of the system revamp.

Of course, quality-of-life improvements to the actual app are certainly welcome in this case, as it has remained unchanged for quite some time now.

Also, once EA’s games work, one should never forget that they are some of the most premium gaming experiences that one can get their hands on!

Of course, nobody will deny that such a situation has become a little too scarce these days.

But, and this one’s a big but, it’ll be quite amusing to see how EA works and how player-perception towards the company change from this point on.

Frankly speaking, even a single mistake or irresponsible implementation on their part can prove to be quite catastrophic for them.

Regardless, let’s wait and watch, shall we?
