EA recently made a huge mistake related to Hero packs in FIFA 23 which resulted in players losing a lot of FIFA coins in a market crash. Heroes are special cards of retired players in FIFA 23, and above them are Icons that represent the legends of the game. But EA made a mistake related to FUT (FIFA Ultimate Team) Heroes which led to many players losing huge amounts of coins.
FUT Heroes is a pack made by FIFA in collaboration with Marvel which brings iconic players back to the game. These players have upgraded stats and have dynamic player images. The players in this pack are either fan-favorites or have contributed to their respective clubs in a major way in football. In real-world money, these cards have been estimated to be worth hundreds of dollars.
EA accidentally released a Hero pack in the FIFA 23 store for 25,000 coins or 500 FIFA points when these packs are usually worth millions of coins. Users were shocked at the price as they thought it was too good to be true. The pack was available for 25 minutes before EA removed it.
It was a tradeable pack which means that the users who bought the pack and opened it, could sell the card in the market for a huge coin influx, and some players did.
Many users purchased this pack which caused a huge influx of FUT Heroes players, which then resulted in the prices of every player to decrease drastically. Due to players selling off their FUT items in those 25 minutes, millions of coins of value were wiped.
The FUT Hero items are very rare and because of their rarity, the market was flooded with them. The players who were able to purchase this pack in those 25 minutes made huge profits while the players who bought Hero cards before EA released this pack lost thousands of coins on each item.
Though the prices of the cards have bounced back and the market is slowly recovering, the damage has already been done.
EA is yet to comment on this matter but they generally compensate players for their mistakes. EA is still probably analyzing ways to tackle the problem because any step it takes, will have a significant effect on the FIFA 23 market. Players are waiting to see how EA takes care of the situation.
