Expect Consequences for Leaving a Black Ops Cold War Match Early

The Season 2 reloaded update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has added a slew of features to the game. Operators, maps and additional game modes have been brought to the game, along with a feature which many fans have been requesting for a while now.

There is no doubt that the Call of Duty community can be toxic. One of the most prevalent issues is players quitting a match if they predict a loss. This may be frowned upon within the community, but there is very little that can be done to stop this practice. While players tolerate it in casual games, it can ruin the chance of winning the match in competitive ranked matches.

Well, in the recent update, Reddit user MIDKNIGHT2099 noticed an addition near the end of the patch report. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s competitive play modes will now punish players who quit mid-match with a Match Suspension penalty. The more penalties an account accrues, the more the punishment will escalate, hopefully resulting in a deterrent for players who early-quit matches.

Commenters on the post pointed out that if they implement this method, they will also have to prevent joining ongoing games. Fill players can often get the short end of the stick, ruining the games league experiences. The change is not listed, but fans are already seeing the holes in this solution.

Other fans have outright called this is a bad feature to add to the game. The matches can get extremely competitive, resulting in toxic behavior which players will have to stick with until the end of the game, even knowing that they are going to lose. With the competitive meta and multiple balance concerns still present in the game, it’s only a matter of time before this fix becomes a problem itself.

Hopefully, this fix will return some sort of balance to the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community, even if only for a while. Players can expect their teams to stick it out to the end, giving the hope of a rebound or change of fate somewhere mid-match. Whether this change will be welcomed or rejected is something that only time will tell.
