Face Earthquakes, Tsunamis and More in Battlefield 2021!

EA has confirmed that a new Battlefield instalment will be released later this year. Recent reports suggest that the game will be set in the modern era, similar to Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. A new leak now suggests that the maps in the new game will also feature natural disasters such as earthquakes, storms and tsunamis.

Tom Henderson, who originally reported that Battlefield 2021 will be called just “Battlefield”, tweeted on April 1st saying

“In Battlefield, explosions are not the only thing that can damage and topple buildings. Mother nature can do a whole lot more,”

and continued the twitter thread with pictures of a tornado, tsunami and an erupting volcano.

We know, April Fool’s joke right? Well, it seems Tom is completely serious about this. So serious that he retweeted the same tweet the next day to show that he wasn’t fooling around! Henderson has been pretty accurate and reliable with several leaks for Activision’s Call of Duty games before, so people are taking his word for it. It should be noted that there is no official confirmation, or denial, from EA regarding this detail, so only time will tell.

Jeff Grubb stated during a podcast in March of this year that the game will likely be officially revealed in May 2021. This lines up with EA’s tradition of announcing Battlefield games in the second quarter of the year, like they did most recently with Battlefield 1.

Last year, EA also confirmed that the newest instalment in the Battlefield franchise will be releasing on all next-gen consoles and will also be “targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms.” The company has shifted several teams to the development of Battlefield 2021, including the team which worked on Star Wars: Battlefront 2, to speed up the process. A leaked survey of the game also hinted that EA may be planning free-to-play modes, much like Warzone, and a season pass much like the other games in the same genre.

We still have no news about release date for the new Battlefield or any details about the campaign or multiplayer modes. EA has been pretty tight lipped about it, but we expect more details to emerge as we get closer to the May announcement.
