Fan Requests Push Ubisoft to Bring One-handed Swords to AC Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has an impressive set of weapons hidden and waiting for players all across the game’s Norwegian setting. Be it shields, axes, swords or spears, each weapon adds a range of stats that can, if used right, prove tremendously beneficial in their own unique ways.

But the one weapon whose absence has been felt by fans is the one-handed sword. And now, thanks to campaigning done by the fans themselves, they won’t have to wait very long to get their hands (or hand?) on them.

Jose Araiza, post-launch producer on AC Valhalla, confirmed that one-handed swords are coming to Ubisoft’s viking title in an interview with YouTuber and streamer JorRaptor. “Yes it is coming,” Araiza said, while expressing the Ubisoft team’s surprise at the sheer volume of fan requests for one-handed swords.

With regards to the implementation of it all, Araiza said that Ubisoft wants to “do it right.” He also added that the whole process “will take a little bit of time” because that’s the deal when you’re creating a brand new sword type that doesn’t look and feel like a reskin.

You can check out the whole interview below. The conversation with Araiza begins at around the 2:00 minute mark.

Ubisoft Confirms One Handed Swords & More Coming To Assassin's Creed Valhalla (AC Valhalla DLC)

Funnily enough, it’s not like one-handed swords in AC Valhalla is a far-fetched concept. You’ll come across plenty of NPCs that attack Eivor with one-handed swords throughout the game. A redditor has even posted a screenshot of Eivor standing in a barn next to a one-handed sword propped up by a wall.

While Araiza neglected to mention any date or time period of when the swords will arrive in the game, it’s good to know that fans won’t have to wonder, “why do this to us, Ubisoft?” anymore.

This is the second fan-requested feature to be added to AC Valhalla after the recently released and controversially implemented transmog update. The game’s first major DLC ‘Wrath of the Druids’ arrives next month on April 29.
