Call of Duty: Vanguard Has a Massive File Size… No Surprises There

Activision and Sledgehammer Games recently revealed the highly-debated Call of Duty: Vanguard, and now more information about the World War 2 first-person shooter is coming to light.

A significant part of this information is something every Call of Duty fan probably dreads – file sizes.

Vanguard is now listed on the Microsoft store for pre-order, and the game’s size is on display for all the world to see.

Since Vanguard is a cross-gen title, it will have a cross-gen bundle for $69.99, where players will get both Xbox One and Xbox Series versions. This cross-gen bundle will come in at an insane 270.05 GB.

The individual versions of the game are more manageable but echo Call of Duty’s vast file size numbers. On Xbox One, fans will need around 75 GB free, while on Xbox Series X, they will have to reserve 95 GB.

The file size on the Series X makes sense as Sledgehammer aims to deliver Vanguard with photo-realistic graphics, which usually warrants large file sizes.

That being said, there is no denying that Call of Duty file sizes have been blowing up to ridiculous proportions lately. BlackOps Cold War leads the charge in this area as the game occupies a stupendous 219.8 GB on PS5 – close to 33% of the 667.2 GB of the console’s SSD.

While Activision has put storage optimizations in place, it seems that gamers will have to resort to getting an external storage drive sooner or later if they wish to stop deleting their games to accommodate CoD titles.

Thankfully, the release of a Vanguard is still a while away, so you don’t need to delete anything just yet.

Dealing with the storage requirements of CoD games can be a pain, but you do get a lot of content out of it.

For instance, Vanguard will come loaded with Zombies, a single-player campaign, multiplayer, and a lot more. We should get to know more about what else is coming in the title closer to release day.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is scheduled to arrive on November 5 for PC, PS4|5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
