First Paid DLC for Microsoft Flight Simulator Released

Microsoft Flight Simulator was one of 2020’s most surprises successes, especially with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Once one of the most anticipated immersive flight simulators, the game turned into a favourite for many thanks to its detailed recreation of the world’s most iconic landmarks, giving fans an alternative to actual travel during lockdowns.

While the developer Asobo is still constantly adding new content to the game and also working to bring it to consoles, the first paid DLC for Microsoft Flight Simulator is releasing today.

First announced in E3 2019 and published by Xbox Game Studios, the game is an amateur flight sim which uses real-time streaming technology powered by Bing Maps (some modders have changed this though) to render a completely realistic simulation of the Earth, all the way down to realistic weather conditions. The game is also currently in development for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, with the version for the Xbox Series X slated for a summer release.

Asobo Studio has been consistently improving the game by adding more detailed landmark recreation as part of free DLC packs, and even a full VR mode slated for release in December.

All these additions have been free, until now. The studio has announced today that the ultralight plane, the Top Rudder Solo 103, will be the first piece of paid DLC costing $9.99, due to external licensing fees.
